This is not a want to buy from a member thread.
This is a request for what to buy (and why) from our great members here.

For a long time I have been thinking about buying a compound crossbow.
Christmas is coming so I want your thoughts on what to buy.
A little criteria for use will be,

1)  70% target practice.
2)  20% hunting.
3)  10% when a gun will draw to much attention
4)  Just like a CVO these things can get expensive. I'm thinking in the $400.00 to $900.00 range.
5)  Easy for me to cock and not to difficult for Nancy to use.
6)  Something fairly lightweight but accurate to a distance.
7)  What accessories do I need?
8 ) How many bolts do I need? Are they like bullets, can a man not have too many?
9)  Something with a scope or red dot.
10) I'm sure there's more considerations but lacking experience I'm not sure what they are.

Lastly, with Christmas coming who is going to (or usually does) have the best sales.

Gander Mnt has the best prices on top equip. Online is great if you know exactly what you want. Practice alot, if you are hunting deer one shot and out.......they are loud.

Check out Sportsmens Guide they are on line they have lots of choices, I purchased 2 Hortons 175 lbs about 3 years ago and my son & me love them they came with red dot scopes but I did not like them just was not for me so I purchased 2 cross bow scopes from them also and they are working out great have them set up for 10,20,30,40 yards. Some of the ones they have are Barnett , Ten Point and Horton. I keep about 2 dozen bolts around 12 are set up for hunting only and 12 for target shooting. These things are a blast I have not touched the compound bow since I got the cross bows. You will need a good target that can handle the cross bow bolts if you do not they will go through everything in is path. Hope this helps you a little.

Just look at Cross bows they make a couple styles  / Compound Bow is something different if you research them on line will see the difference.

Good news, in 2011 North Carolina passed a law so you no longer need a pistol permit or a concealed carry permit to own and buy a crossbow.
To be legal to hunt with the crossbow it must have a minimum 150lbs draw. May be used anytime when hunting with regular bow and arrow is permitted.
Have no clue which brand crossbow is best. Good luck!

  chip,its been awhile since tinkering with crossbows! but here is what i know,barnett has been the leader in crossbows but i am sure others have equalled barnett by now. you can buy cocking devices.sights probably should be multiple pins or scope with multiple reticles. lots of firearms wholesalers carry crossbows and since atf does not restrict crossbows any wholesaler will probably ship to your door. try mid south shooters supply. i do suggest going to one of the big retailers to actually hold one to see if seems to fit and feel ok. not sure if they make blue ones but hey you know good painters already! :2vrolijk_21:compound crossbows are fairly recent but will out perform the traditional crossbow. my thinking is the compound crossbow will shoot flatter and faster. no doubt they will require more attention and tuning! speed costs,cars guns, computer.cvos, good luck with the search. took me a while to remember the place,try this bowhunters warehouse 717-432-8611

NC used to require a handicap permit to use a xbow on big game....no longer true. Any licensed hunter may use a xbow

Chip you will have a blast with a good crossbow, they are crazy accurate once dialed in. A compound crossbow is pretty much what dominates the market now for a lot of reasons, primarily though the ease of cocking to produce high bolt speeds. Take a good look at a Barnett Ghost 410, this is what I have and highly recommend. I bought a package that had optics on it but I replaced the cheap scope with a Trijicon (cost more than the bow). Sportsmans Guide has this for $899 if you are a member.
