Danny Gray Solo seat for Breakout
« on: December 02, 2013, 01:40:16 PM »

Danny Gray now has solo (Buttcrack Solo!) and 2-up seats for the BO. The solo goes for $335. I am not impressed with the looks of the seat but, hey, at least we now have an option beyond what is offered by HD (aka not much!). I am going to wait a little longer for other vendors' version before pulling the trigger on a custom seat (if they look as yawn-inducing as the choices so far) that is comfortable and looks as good as the rest of the bike.

Unfortunately, because of the cute way DG designed their website I can't post a link. But it is listed on their website along with the base price.

The Danny Gray is not a good option IMO.

I didn't think that this one would fit the BO because of the two stud mounting points.  Am I wrong?  :nixweiss:

They have a T bracket that bolts onto the bike using the existing seat studs and extends back for the single bolt needed for the DG seat. So you still get an exposed bolt.

I like the back 1/2, just not the front 1/2.  I am talking to the lady there in emails about possibly a different front 1/2.  I will post up the result.

Definitely gonna pay big bucks to have that sucker custom made.  I would go to someone like Bitchin Seats, or C&C maybe for that?

For me there are a number of things necessary for a good seat on the BO. First, the front of the seat has to rest on the tank because the paint job detail, i.e. the pin stripe/crushed slate/polished bare metal, is very sloppy where the original seat covers the tank and the back fender under the seat. So, even though a shorter seat would look better, it would also show the messy paint job, at least on my bike.

Then there is the exposed bolt problem. Replacing two bolts with one solves the problem by 50%. Need to get rid of the bolts somehow. I had designed a chrome piece for that (before and after attached below) to cover the bolts:

This chrome piece would cover the bolts nicely and does make the whole seat look better but it doesn't solve problem number 3, comfort.

The comfort has to do with no backrest. With the pillion removed I need an integrated backrest both to prevent sliding back while riding and to help with long distance riding, which becomes painful after a couple of hours.

And finally the look. It has to look like it belongs on this bike.

So far the options fall short in all the areas mentioned above for me.

There are a lot of great choices for other HD models and I am hoping the same suppliers will actually design a seat that offers the right function (comfort) and has the proper form for a BO. Otherwise I will have to go with bitchin seats, c&c, etc.

That's one great looking bike!  It's hard to beat the black & chrome combo.  Seat looks good.   :2vrolijk_21:
