Wife cannot hear me on HD intercom
« on: December 29, 2013, 09:08:32 PM »

In the past, this has worked fine.  When it got out of whack, I managed to find the AVC was too high/low or the VOX was out of adjustment.  Also, that thing called her volume control has worked in the past.  Not this time...arghhhhh!

Anyhow, Deedee cannot hear me.  I have been using a headset and mic that came with the bike.  It's the HD model with one dongle to the bike.  I went and bought an new headset and dongle today and after doing the software update on my 07 HK Radio, we tried it again.  No go.  She still cannot hear me.

All I want to know is how do I turn her off...he, he.   :D

Not really, I want to know if anyone else has had this problem and whether there are any easy fixes.

I've dug into archive strings and found a great one on self-diagnostics on the radio posted by Carl in 2010.  In the morning, I'll run these diagnostics and see what is going on in the radio.  While I doubt there is a technical problem with the radio, it never hurts to be sure.

I appreciate any constructive help.  We're going to be riding on Tuesday and I'd like to get this resolved if possible.

I don't know about the radio troubleshooting, but when we had issues it was always the cable between the bike and the helmet. Check that you have a real good connection at the helmet because sometimes it appears to be connected, but actually isn't making a good electrical connection. I always use a helmet that is working to check the second connection, then switch cables, etc. to narrow the issue as best I can. i wish you luck and keep us posted on what you find.

Mine is also acting up. Seems to be the plug on the tank not getting a good connection. We've tried both of our headsets and other peoples headsets with the same results. I need to take that dash and plug apart and find the loose connection on mine.

I believe it was a dirty connector on the female port on the bike.  I sprayed all of the connections with electronic connector cleaning solution and it started working.  A few adjustments of the VOX and it seems to be working great.  We'll see tomorrow when we ride to Capitola for the New Years celebration.

I believe my old headset will work fine, but I'll keep it as a backup.

One note for those owning bikes over four or five years old, the new set came with a software upgrade for the radio.  Not sure what was changed, but it seemed to load pretty easily in about ten minutes.   :2vrolijk_21:

Let me know Ken.  Helena can hear me but I can't hear her (not a bad thing  :D) and need to figure it out as well.

LOL Ernie!

Let's meet up this weekend and take a look. I've done so much trouble shooting, it seems second nature now. There are a number of possible pints of failure.

We're going to be taking down lights and our tree, so will be home.

You busy?  Send me a text.

New Years cheers!
