I have the wpw fans on my bike also. They automatically come on when necessary and are small enough to not cover up too much of the rest of the engine. Installation took less than 10 minues (IIRC) and did not require any changes to the rest of the bike.

I have just put one of these "Slip-on" oil filter cooler collars , works on the heatsink principle

I've put them on many bikes here in Australia and have run comparisons against Harley's own plumbed in oil cooler system and both drop the oil temp 20F

My recently arrived 2013 CVO Breakout was running hot compared to my 2008 CVO Springer , which had ONE OF THESE INSTALLED 15+ months ago

Doesn't this solution require the bike to be moving?  I like the additional cooling fins, but I'd see this as additional to the fans, rather than as a stand alone in hot regions. 20 dg is big!

We're planning a trip to Glacier Park this summer, so I'm looking at fans. Either oil or head. It gets pretty hot throughout the areas we'll be traveling.

Also, ematicac said something about oil not circulating when a bike is stopped and running. My understanding of the engineering of these machines the oil circulates anytime the bike is running. It better be or we'd all be in trouble in the cities. I'm sure you didn't mean it to come out that way, but it reads funny.

Mate , these work even when the bike is stopped in traffic. The heatsink principle works at all times

Radiator type plumbed in coolers are better on the move than when stopped.

These work best on genuine HD filters , and I buy only black now as these cover them 90+ percent

To all the "bagger" guys , several of my mates have them on baggers here in western Australia , but some have to "mod" the slip-on coolers a wee tad to clear a factory oil cooler hose or bracket. You can't see the grind/mod once the article is pushed over the oil filter

I added the HD premium oil cooler to my bike, though I believe 3rd party options might be better. My bike runs noticeably cooler even on hottest days of summer. Even beyond the engine considerations, I am more comfortable and don't feel like I'm riding on a pizza oven. I also have the cooling fans, which I have turned off since October as I just don't see the need for it.

There are a lot of folks who think oil coolers (or cooling fans) are not necessary. But, being an old Porsche air-cooled engine fan and considering Porsche the leading authority when it comes to air cooling, I followed their lead and added the oil cooler and the fans regardless.

The dealers are telling me that the center mount oil cooler that you have wont work with ABS. Where did you order your parts from because I need to get these temps under control? I also have a crash bar on the front, I would be more than happy to part with it if that is incompatible though. I avoid Dumfries like the plaque but interested in which dealer you use for parts.

Thanks! I bought the oil cooler from the local HD dealer that I am not a fan of! Customer service ain't what Harley deserves, IMO. No issues what so ever with the brake. I don't know why they would say it will not work with it. There are no hoses or anything in the way and I don't think ABS system has any connection to the engine oil. But then again I'm mechanically challenged. Anyhow, it was the first thing I attempted to do on my own (not counting getting rid of the reflectors!) and it went without a hitch. I even ordered the thermostat from WPW and had to open up the adapter and replace the stock thermostat that came with the cooler. Even with me double checking every step because of my total lack of self confidence I was done in less than 30 minutes.

The slip-on coolers  ( I discovered them after this ! ) had the bike running at the same oil temperature without any of the fitting hassle at a fraction of the cost !

The Harley plumbed in kit does look purty tho' !!

Here's a picture of the oil cooler hoses and adapter. Again I don't see how this in anyway affects or interacts with the ABS.

I'm in the "if your bike didn't come with an oil cooler it doesn't need one" camp.  They idle these bikes on hot desert asphalt until they run out of gas during hot-weather testing and they don't melt down.

That said, there's certainly no harm in running a cooler - especially on a modified bike - with a thermostat.  As long as the bike still can get to operating temperature you're good to go.

I've been running a Jagg 10-row on my 'Train for the last 4 years since the build.  It keeps the temperatures down on hot days.  Necessary?  Probably not, but with what I have in the engine it's cheap insurance.

Jees Cam you might want to wipe off that camera lense, it makes your bike look dirty....just sayin'
