GPS Navigation System CD Question
« on: November 16, 2006, 07:13:35 PM »

I just picked up my new 07SE Ultra and started going thru all the goodies and no GPS Navigation CD! Don't it come standard with the SE model? Also no video on the operation and etc (Got one with my 05SE). Should I have received a video as well?

Has anybody made copies of the CD's since the originals are expensive to replace?  If so, were there any special things you had to do to copy them?

I did make a copy using my computer and a cd burner. It appeared to be OK when I installed the new cd. The warning screen came up and I hit the "OK" button and the GPS was tracking. However when I attempted to put in a destination the cd just whirled on and was unresponsive. I removed the cd and haven't tried it again.

How does the Nav work (haven't loaded mine yet)? Is it just turn buy turn directions?

Rob
My assessment is a little biased in that I have been into the GPS world for many years and have used everything from the most sophisticated to the most rudimentary. What I miss mostly is the nice color display that is used on most of the auto/aircraft systems. The HD system is basically a turn by turn unit that does accomplish the job. I have used it on several trips and didn't get lost. There are not many options-shortest route or fastest route, three road options and of course punch a button and it will list the nearest HD locations. I would rate it about a 7 on a 10 point scale. My opinion.

Don,

Thanks for your input. I hadn't really needed it yet so I havent installed the disks. Also, I have not read anything that made me want to use it. I bought a Street Pilot c330 at Best Buy last Sunday night to use on a trip I took to Colorado Springs, Co last Monday and it was FLAWLESS especially for the money. Since I was going there and back in only 4 days it was a great tool in streching my gas out and finding Holiday Inn Expresses along the way. Got off route once going thru Atlanta and it put me back on track in about 3 minutes. I couls probably use it on the bike if I need to as it has a big suction cup cradle that would stick to my tank or windshield, although not sure about the vibration factor jarring it loose. I think I will install the CD's this week.

On another seperate GPS note, have you or anyone here heard or are familiar with some kind of program/software I can get from HD that lists all the dealers that will load into my Garmin Street pilot? I thought I heard or read about it somewhere.

I am not aware of a package that has that data. However someone has put it together for usage on these built in systems. It is only a matter of HD making it available.
