A man barely survived a ship wreck and finds himself on a deserted island. There being no fresh water and precious little to eat, the deeply religious man turned to his faith and prayed for deliverance.
As luck would have it a ship came by the island within a day or two. When asked if he wanted a ride, the man refused saying that God would save him. A few days later an airplane flew over. Again, the man waived his would be rescuer off just knowing that he would be saved by the Lord. Then a pleasure boat came by his tiny island. The passengers were shocked when the nearly starving and dehydrated man refused help saying that his faith was in God and that He would surely deliver one of his most faithful.
Finally, however, than man succumbed to starvation and lack of water and soon found himself at the Pearly Gates of Heaven. Shocked, he couldn’t help but ask St. Peter why he was called home before his time.
Looking at an index card, St. Pete read:
“Three chances all refused. Too stupid for field work. Recall immediately”
