Better cam set up for a Softail
« on: January 14, 2014, 11:23:57 AM »

I am struggling with this decision. I have a set of TW-7H cams and Wood Directional lifters ready to install. I have heard some say these are more of a touring cam. If I go with these I'm going to get my heads milled to up the compression. What I'd like to know is if going with the Kuryakyn TC24D would be better for a Softail. I would get heads milled for that as well. Also going with cometic .030 hg. Any, and all thoughts appreciated. Thanks in advance

Wood 888, S&S .585 are 2, that would run well at 10.6 cr, with the Wood grind having more snap off the bottom.

From the several threads you've started I'm starting to think you are approaching this thing from the wrong direction.  Rather than pick parts first and then try to figure out if you made the right choice, how about you list all the pertinent facts first and then have some experts offer advice as to the correct parts to reach your goals?  For instance, start out by telling us exactly what bike and drivetrain you have, then tell us how you normally ride, and then tell us exactly what characteristics you are looking for.  If you have a lighter weight model like a Dyna or Softail, and you are more of a hotrodder than a tourer, and like your power to come in at higher rpms, then the parts you will need won't be the same as for a guy who rides a 900+ pound Touring rig at 2400 rpm for hours on end .
