Valve stem
« on: January 29, 2014, 01:14:28 PM »

I am considering replacing my rear valve stem with and angled version to make checking and filling the tire easier.  I see some advertised, but not one specific for the rear CVO Ultra wheels.  Does anyone no the diameter of the hole int the rim so I can decide what stems I need.  Like to have one ready when I change  tires.  My bike is the 2010 CVO Ultra. Would also appreciate knowing if someone has done this and what valves they used. Thanks

The cast wheels used on the late model Touring CVO's use a 8.3mm valve stem.  I'd suggest a 45° version versus a 90°.

I have a 14, so I don't have to change a tire for a while, but I like that Idea, a lot.  A 45 degree angle would be perfect! :bananarock:

It may take quite a bit of searching to find the smaller diameter stems (8.3mm), since the majority of rims use an 11.3mm stem.  But they are out there, often made of anodized aluminum for European sport bikes and usually 83-90°.  If you have time to do some web searching you should be able to find what you need.  Finding them in a Harley shop probably isn't likely though.

dep47, regarding your valve stem. I purchased the HD valve stem extension. It is on page 797 of the 2014 parts and accessories catalogue. The price is $10.95. Usually my tires will stay at the recommended pressure for at least two weeks. However if you need air and you stop at station that has one of those funky air chucks you can attach the extension to your existing valve stem and have plenty of room. Really though they should have put an angled valve stem on it from the get go. CAHDBIKER

Installed the 8.3  mm 90 degre curvey girl valve stem yesterday, and it worked just great.  I did use one of the rubber spacers on the bottom of the new valve stem that I removed from the original HD stem.  Just thought it should have more of a seal then just the o -ring on the out side.  Nothing hits anywhere, and I can fill it with just about any air chuck.  Thanks for the help.
