New cams but no dyno tune?
« on: February 19, 2014, 12:13:31 PM »

I good friend of mine took his Ultra classic to a local dealer and had SE255 cams put in his 96" TC motor. When he went to pick it up the mechanic told him that he "test drove" it and he didn't feel tuning was necessary. He told my friend that if he didn't like the way it ran, they could put it on the dyno.

I haven't said anything to him yet but, there's no way this can be good, is there???

It depends...
If your friend has a Tuner (if he does, what is it?) in the bike, The Tech could have put a canned map in that is suited to that combination. Or the tech could be an idiot...

How does the bike run???

I can't answer either question. I don't know if or what kind of tuner he has. I happened to be at the dealer the same time he was picking it up so I don't know how it ran. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him and hope the mechanic used a canned map that'll work, and that it's not your second option.  :o

If he has a good tuner on the bike (TTS, Vision, ect.) then he shouldn't have to Dyno the bike if he can find a map that matches what he has.

like said before,if its got a tuner on it,a canned map would be available & fine for a cam only,255 build.if bike has no tuner, and has never been tuned.get a PCIII and put a canned map for the 255

There is no canned map for a 96 inch engine and a 255 cam in the 2007 + bagger or softail or dyna .

Use of a PC has had many  issue's with the wire harness / pins.

You can take a  SE map and rescale it but that is not going to more accurate. .

So to the point it is not ok, its got a half ass map in it . Dont forget that a canned map is not going to get more accurate by making CI changes to it. And the map was built around all SE parts.

As well the entire point of adding a cam is for increased performance.

Exactly. To skimp on the tune when you installed cams to increase performance basically defeats the purpose. Possibly even worse, actually.
