2014 cvo issues
« on: April 09, 2014, 01:08:26 PM »

I'm new at this so here goes, I purchased a 2014 CVO Limited in Oct 2013, I have 1400 miles on it, I've been having issues with the radio, 1st it was the power button sticking, then the front speakers not working if the bike sat overnight, also ther ear speakers crackling and the speed/volume control not working, the usb port would not recognize the stick that was inserted, unles you unplugged it and plugged it back in,  the XM radio not working 99% of the time. The dealership after 2 attempts to fix the issues replaced the radio with a new one....I still have the same issues, I even had the XM radio antenna removed from inside the fairing to on the dash near the button for the fairing air flow, it is now back at the dealer, any suggestions or comments, Thanx Mike

I don't have any reccomendations other than what you are doing. I sure wouldn't let the dealer off the hook. I'd make a pest of myself until the problem was fixed.
BTW welcome to the site from Ohio. Maybe someone else will give you some personal insite on your problem...

If I read your post correctly, you've given the dealership three attempts so far to fix the problems and they haven't been fixed.  You need to escalate things by calling Harley Customer Service [(800) 258-2464  or  (414) 343-4056] and filing an official complaint with the MoCo.

Some of your issues, like the front speakers not working, have supposedly been fixed with a recent firmware update.  Others may not be fixed by that latest update, but I'd suggest you start by having the latest update installed.  The dealership should do this for you, but you can also download and install the update yourself if you prefer.  Check out this thread:

I wouldn't consider yourself unlucky or that you have a lemon... It is a 2014!

From what I've been hearing and reading you are definitely NOT alone as many have been having similar issues.

Most new models with major changes such as the 14's always seem to have issue to work through, but eventually they get them all fixed.

That's one of the reasons I decided to wait till the 15's are out.

I hope you're back on the road with trouble free riding soon.

Just talked with dealership, the new upgrade fixed the speaker issues, but they are still scrathing their heads about why the XM radio loses the signal 90% of the time, even with the antenna outside the fairing, any suggestions? They have already replaced the receiver once, Thanx

You will find that XM reception SUX in your neck of the woods. The satellite is in geosynchronous orbit over ATLANTA GA. Therefore every tree and hill/mountain that gets between you and Atlanta will cause a loss of signal.

Whenever we ride up there - and Vermont - we use our IPod most of the time because even FM reception can be dicy in some areas.

Thanx, but what bothers me about the XM reception is that I drive the same route every day in my truck, NEVER loose reception, same route on my  2014 mc 95% of the time it's gone. I had a 2004 Road King with a Hoppe Fairing and the antenna was in the fairing, I might have lost reception 10% of the time, Go figure.

Good Day, Just an update, on my MC, The new radio upgrade seems to have fixed the front speaker issues, the speed/volume issues and the XM radio reception problems, Picked up the bike sat, all the radio issues are working YAAAAAA : Changed the CVO mufflers and replaced them with $' Rienharts... Much better sound, ECM upgrade, good power...Mayber now I can concentrate on enjoying it, One thing I did notice... what sounds like an exhaust leak  at idle was actually the flapper in the Throttle body echoing the heads, HMMM

The next time my outer fairing is off I plan on relocating the XM antennae. I'm thinking of mounting on top of the dash pad, next to my windshield bag. I'm hoping that getting it out of the fairing will improve the reception  :nixweiss:

There is a reason why the auto companies mount the sat radio antenna on the roof, not inside the vehicle.

The reason automotive companies mount the antenna on the roof is that the car is made of steel. The fiberglass in our fairings will not hinder the signal.
