Lots of us have.  But you need to change out the amps too.

Installed a level 4 kit from Pete at SoundzCustoms. Arc 125.4 amp, Focal 6.5" up front and 5x7 Hybrid Audio in the lids. Friggin ROCKS compared to the stock setup.
One thing I will admit tho is the vocals crank so much harder than the HAT's I'm going to swap em out I think…

The only bad thing is the Focals leak. I ll give up sound for dry bags.  I have the hybrid also in the bags. Stuart.

I changed the 4 speakers only. J&M 7 1/4 in front, 5 1/4 in rear. Sounds great to me.....but nowhere near the kind of system Stu & others are talking about.

I have the arc. 125.4.   Works great.  Great comb with the Focals.   Pete can make a harness that's plugs right in.   :)

What do you mean the focals leak? Are the waterproof like the factory speakers?

I had focal 5x7in the bags.  They will leak. In the fairing or lowers they are fine.

I put a RF PBR-300x2 in the fairing to drive a set of Polk MM651 speakers, and kept the stock CVO amp under the tourpak to drive a pair of J&M 5.25 speakers in the pods. Pretty happy with this setup. Cost was under $500.

Did the same, and since I have lowers, I have the 6.5" Focals there too.  I put the Focal tweeters in to replace the Harley ones too.  Pete does and awesome job, you won't be disappointed.  The system simply rocks, and I can hear it fine on the highway at 75 while wearing ear plugs.

As was mentioned above, to get decent sound, get rid of the stock amps and speakers.  It's very easy to cross the point of diminishing returns with the cost of a system, though.  Some modify the bags for 6x9s, multiple amps, etc.

I put Biketronics (HAT) 7.1 speakers in the upper fairing and rear pods with the BT 4180 amp.  Works well.  The Arc 125 amp is less expensive and very good, too.  Very easy to install in an evening.

No matter how much you spend, you aren't going to get great quality sound on an open Harley with pipes at 70 mph on the freeway.  But at least I can hear enough to be worth the upgrade.

Good luck,

Dan

I swapped my speakers and amp last year for some speakers and an amp from a local stereo shop that said they did a lot of Harleys and it was a waste of money. Distorted on the hyw. Just finished installing focals and arc audio amp from Pete at Soundz and it was worth every penny.
Yes it is a little bit more money , but now we can hear it on the hyw.
Don't go half way on this upgrade. To be happy I would recommend just spending the money with Pete. He is awesome and will tell up straight if it is a good idea or not.
