Removing oil filter with oil cooler
« on: May 07, 2014, 07:33:39 PM »

So what is the trick to removing the oil filter with the oil cooler lines above the filter? Do I have to remove the lines or get a different type oil filter wrench. The wrench that i have been using is the one that slips around the filter. Maybe one that fits the end will work. But I would like to know before buying.

K&N filters have a nut on the end that makes removal easy.  Good filters too!!

I have the one that slips on the end of the filter and it can be turned with a ratchet and extension.  It looks similar to the attached pic.  BTW, they all cost too much.

It will...

The K&N filter is a good choice too.  It's what I use...   :2vrolijk_21:

wrench with the cutoutfor the crank position sensor.

I have sanded the end of a new Harley filter and used JB Weld to glue on a nut for easier removal.

I like that idea.....jb weld a few days before you have to do the service and you are set to go....I prefer to stick to the OEM filters personally, but i have used K&N and the Hiflo and never had any issues

I bought mine at a Harley dealer (but it wasn't a Harley item).  Amazon has them for about $10 plus shipping.

Filter on my '12 cuse7 must have been put on at the factory by a gorilla.

At the first oil change I swear that the filter body was twisted because I had to apply so much force to loosen it.
