Don, I am a little disappointed by your comments concerning Zipper's workmanship.

OK, I agree it doesn't look real good, but is that bevel edge a critical area?  I doubt that is affecting the performance of the finished product, is it?

Pete, I can't give you a before and after comparison of just the Thundermax versus a Power Commander or SERT as I was doing other work at the same time.

Don, thanks for the detail and I really appreciate where you are coming from.  I like the auto tune feature as well and was the only reason for considering the Thundermax again, but I believe the PC will have to come out with something similar in time.  The advantage in my mind with the PC unit is it is an add on to the factory ECM so should it crap out when you are in the middle of nowhere (just my luck), the bike will still run, albeit lean, to the nearest HD dealer who stock PC's.

One of the big advantages Zipper's has in my mind is that they produce a package of matched components that have been tested so you know about what kind of performance to expect before you put down your money.  With the MOCO it seems like a crap shoot when you get beyond the Stage 1 & 2 kits and I know many people who spent a lot of money thinking they were going to get big power/torque gains using various SE components and didn't.  My intent was to pull the whole motor and send to them, have them rebuild including the Timken bearing conversion and return to me as an assembled/warranteed motor.  My concern is if they did an "average" job on the heads, how would the rest of the motor come out if they did all that work?

I think most all on this site who have purchased Zipper's bolt on performance mods (i.e. 575 cams) have been satisfied, at least I am.  I would be interested in hearing from others on whether they had the same experience as you, but like you, I feel that work never should have left their shop, whether it affects the performance or not.  It's a quality thing for me.

OMG Mark, I would have given Randy an ear full. I would also let Tim II know about it so you don't get double charged for it. They could have done a cleaner job for sure! Ask them if Tim Bumpus would accept that on his scooter. As much money as your spending I wouldn't pay for the redo of their shoddy work no matter which store done it! JMHO.

JR, as usual, very good advise.  Stopped by and talked to Tim II this morning and you were right. We walked over and looked at it, he smiled, shook his head and said "no problem, we will take care of that, no charge". Got to admit they have one hell of a great attitude for customer service, that combined with outstanding quality workmanship will keep me driving the extra few miles to take my bike into them. Kind of sad Collierville is just 2 minutes from my house but there is no comparison at all.
Again, thanks for suggestion. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
