New helmet and communication system!
« on: May 25, 2014, 12:25:40 AM »

I've been splurging. Two days ago I bought Denise a new leather jacket. Today I bought myself an Arai XC helmet and the set of Sema SMH10 headsets. Getting it all hooked up and blue toothed to the gps, phone and iPods.

This is fun!

The Sena head sets are great its just a pity they cant hook up to the bike, maybe there will be a fix in the future or a work around.

How are you liking the headsets?

What type of helmet are you running these on?

My helmet is an Arai XC, and hers is a HJC IS. Both are 3/4 with flip up shields. I ride most of the time with the shield up, even when talking.

Once you learn the system and how it operates it's easy. Everything is controlled on the helmet by a large jog dial that is easily operated with gloves on. She and I speak via wireless helmet to helmet intercom. I Bluetooth my iPhone5 to the Zumo550, and the 550 to my helmet. This allows me to keep the phone in the tourpack on a charger. Through the 550 I can see caller ID on incoming calls, and have a large touch screen to use when dialing. I can also use voice command dialing. All my music is contained on my ITouch which is in the windshield pouch. I listen to music through a second Bluetooth channel in the system. The Itouch is connected to the stereo via IronCross Audio interface. This allows me to control the Itouch through the handlebar and radio face controls. Since she has two Bluetooth channels too, she can listen to her own music and phone calls.

I love being cordless. I can get off the bike and open the house, gate, and such and am still connected. She can get off the bike and go into gas stations, or tourist stops for a quick second to look around and still be in touch. When looking for food she can walk over and read the posted menu to me.

I just wish it could talk to other systems like Chatterbox.

I hope you found this helpful.

There are work arounds. I've been enjoying all my Harley onboard radios including XM for a year along with intercom and iPhone and my nuvi gps. The only thing that's missing is the *transmit* on the CB. There's actually a way to do that with a hand mic.
You need an adapter for the connection at the 7pin plug and a Bluetooth transmitter.
I've been using the Sena SM10.
