How long of life do you get out of your batteries?
« on: May 30, 2014, 10:26:16 PM »

Just curious....how long of life have you guys gotten out of your batteries?

I swapped out the battery a couple days shy of 5 years on this last one.  About the same life on the one before that if memory serves me right.   And, I always keep the (HD branded) tender on when not in motion.  I've always gone OEM....but, might think about an aftermarket next time...anyone have any good recommendations?

I switch mine out every 3 years, I have a phobia about dead batteries. The OEM battery is actually a very good battery made by Deka. If you want to save a couple of bucks you an buy directly from them. I am weird and it is worth the couple of bucks to me to buy OEM

My 06' SG still has original battery, always tendered when not moving and never let me down. Same on my 11' SESG. Might as well start shopping now that I bragged about it, it will probably chit out tomorrow!!!

That's the Kiss-O-Death, my friend. 8)

We have friends that were on their way to Sturgis (about 12 yrs ago this happened) and wife of this couple had a three year old LowRider and it just quit running.   No warning/no nothing....coasted to the side of the road and not even a dim light came on.  Of course they were way out in the sandhills of our lovely state and finally roused someone out of HD in Columbus, NE and after a lengthy time including a tow to the shop they found the battery had simply given up.  It really looked like something else electrical was going on.   Never heard of this happening before...usually will get some kind of warning before then...maybe a grunt on starting/etc.

I insist on the ( American Made ) Yuassa battery. Don't think that is the correct spelling though. Getting good life and good cranking power out of them + keeps an American working.

Here in Vegas it's about a 3 year average on bike and auto batteries, not much longer.

I have a 2007 Deuce that I purchased new and it has the original HD battery. I have a 2003 Deuce with the HD battery, but I do not know if it is the original or changed out prior to my purchase.

I have 9 original or restored Japanese muscle bikes and I have been switching them over to AGM batteries. I keep a battery tender on them in a heated garage.

I had to switch out the original battery on my 13' Breakout after only one winter.  I took it out of the bike and had it hooked up to the Harley battery tender all winter.  Ended up having a dead cell and they replaced it under warranty.  So, long story short I have seen some batteries last for 5+ years and others die after a few hundred miles.  I have no idea why one lasts so long and the next one dies so quickly (but so is life).

Last two batteries that I bought were DEKA they worked great, looked to be just as well made as the Harley batteries and I saved a good amount of money to boot. Free shipping to my door.

I just had my battery replaced after only one year of service due to a bad cell. I have a 2013 CVO ULTRA . The only good things about this is it crapped out in my driveway before me and the Mrs. were going out on a ride and warranty covered the replacement.

As one member stated above, I have a phobia about dead batteries.  I replaced a battery after 5 yrs even though it still had some life left.  The last battery I replaced had about 1/3 of it's life left and I went ahead and replaced it.  It lasted about 3-4 yrs.  I put bike battery replacement in the same classification as tires...better safe than sorry.

Just forced to change the battery on my 2010.  Unfortunately, I waited too long, went to start her and nothing.

On the bright side, it happened in my driveway. :huepfenjump3:

I thinking of replacing my battery too.  Want to make sure it is the correct one and will work before I order one.
