CVO to Alaska
« on: June 12, 2014, 09:51:54 PM »

I thought I'd try this. I've never taken a laptop on a trip before.  I'm on my way to Alaska. Got off at noon today and took off---like a kid at Christmas. Got 400 miles in, partially to get on the road, but mostly to relieve the adrenaline buildup.  I've got 8 days to get the the Fairbanks airport.  My wife is flying in for the Summer Solstice party there.  We'll rent a car and tour the Denali area for a few days, then she'll fly home and I'll continue my adventure.  I'll try to post pics as I go, depending on wireless connections.  Stay tuned.

8 days should give you more than enough time.  The days are long right now so you can get in a lot of miles.   Top off the tank when you can especially when you get up in the northern British Columbia area and into the Yukon.   Nothing but miles and miles of miles and miles up there.   Watch out for buffalo and moose and enjoy the ride.

Timbuck2is right, buy gas every chance you get. I would be packing one or two of those small fuel cans that fits in the saddlebag corners as well. I'm looking forward to hearing of your adventures and seeing the pictures. Ride safe!

Enjoy your trip! Be safe, ride alert, fill the tank every chance you get the further north you get, and last but not least TAKE AND POST A LOT OF PICTURES!

X 2

Perhaps too late to get one but you may want to consider one of these - Saddlebag Gas Tank - One gallon.  One of my buds on our journey had one and he needed it!

DAY 2--  When do the voices stop??  Still hearing people at work telling me what needs to be done--schedules to keep, meetings to go to, emails that need attention, things I still have to do, details---even my wife's "to do" list is still on my mind. The thinking needs to stop!!  But when.

Beautiful sunrise, calm, nice riding this morning.  I snuck through Customs un-violated.  I somehow drew the long straw today with a 35mph tail wind. Talked to some riders at a gas stop that were really having problems with it--just told them they were going the wrong way.  Also stayed North of the rain for most of the day. I got to feel that wonderful burning in my neck and shoulders for several hours, that tells me I'm having a great time.  Nice 700 mile day, but I'm beat. Not much for pics, just a long day in the saddle. Not much here but prairie.
