I saw them at Laconia also, but did not ride one. On the web site they do not mention the availability of anti-lock brakes. Anybody know if the Indians can be equipped with them?

Look closer at Indian's website under Standard Equipment, it lists ABS (Antilock Brake System) as standard equipment.

Went up to Springfield Massachusetts with some friends to hang out at INDIAN DAY at the Springfield Museums (Springfield as you know was the original home of Indian motorcycles) They have a decent size permanent display of original Indian motorcycles and even an experimental Indian car. Today was the annual all Indian bike show and swap meet. The Swap meet portion consisted of about a half dozen vendors, with a few specializing in REPOP parts.

Anyway I was hanging around the dealer booth for the NEW Indian motorcycles and spent a little time looking over the '14 Chieftain:

It had a dealer executed two tone paint job which was really quite nicely done. The front fairing is - in my opinion - goofy looking.
The inner side of the fairing really appeared "unfinished" to me. It looked almost like an outer fairing shell was bolted on the front end and they called it done  :nixweiss:

Fit and finish look to be excellent, sitting on the bike the ergonomics seem ok and the exhaust note is really quite nice - the dealer was nice enough to let me fire it up. They also indicated that a "full" touring model is coming in '15 - meaning a top box/tourpak/trunk/whatever they decide to call it is coming along with new factory two-tone paint options.

The purrdiest one they had on display was this Vintage with the Tan bags and seat - certainly one good looking bike

I was killing time last week and decided to take a ride to the nearest Indain dealer. It's almost 90 miles but it figured why not. They had 2 Chieftains and 3 others. Forgive me the names escape me. I didn't ride one but after an hour looking I left with the following impressions.

1. Indian seems to require dedicated and exclusive space as part of their franchise agreement. They sold Victory and Polaris ATV together in a separate wing while the Indain boutique was solo. Good idea. They also handled Suzuki but they were "in the back" down a hallway. Really low rent in the Suzuki area. Kinda surprised me.

2) As a long time Harley and BMW rider accessory prices don't really surprise me anymore....well until last week. They may not have a lot of accessories yet but what thay do have are expensive. I saw a large detachable windscreen hanging on the wall. Similar to what you'd see on a RK or Heritage Softail. That a $335 setup on a Harley. On an Indain it's $599. Everything else seem to carry the same tomahawk tariff.

3) like everyone says the fit and finish is very good. I'd say comparable to Harley except the frame. It's a better looking piece than Harley's. The Chieftain has a roomier cockpit than my RG if you're someone that needs it. I'm 6' and for me my feet felt best all the way back on the foot boards. It's a big bike for sure. I like the chrome and finish of the hand controls but the placement of some functions is out of whack. Unless you've got massive hands you'd have to remove your left hand from the grip to reach everything. I like the central lock and the one handed operation of the bags. I also like the levers to remove the bags. No more having a washer fall between the saddle bag and the liner like on my CVO.

4) For my tastes the styling is too retro. I understand why they did it and it's probably the right move but not for me. I suspect and truly hope they come out with a model that tones it down a bit while still capturing the Indian lines. No lighted indian heads on the fender and other 50s crap. Just their version of a Street Glide with real suspension. That would cause many sleepless night in Milwaukee and could pry me off my CVO.

Some of Indian's accessory prices would make the MoCo blush.  Rider's backrest: $350.  Rider's backrest mount: $150.  Total: $500.  Slip-on mufflers: $900-$1,000 per pair.  When you out-price HD on accessories, you've really accomplished something.

Pretty soon the ACLU will decide they don't want "Native American" Images representing Football Franchise's OR MOTORCYCLES.  Take away the name, the product dies.

The list of products, teams and corporations that would be subject to this way of thinking is very long......

My exact point...but if the Redskins buckle under more lawsuits will follow.  They have already taken away the trade "dress" ownership from the franchise, now anyone can use that logo for free and at will.

Next Up? - Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Chiefs.
At Risk?- Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds.

I don't want to hijack this thread, it just came to mind as I was reading.
