Sounds like a Conspiracy Theorist.  Apparently everyone at HD is involved.

I have had many bikes in my life time and finally "moved over to the dark side" as my friend would say.  I could not be happier with my choice.  Yes, I actually read that piece before I bought my SESG and was having second thoughts.  Bike are like wives, some are keepers and some are not.  I do have to tell the odds are you will have an issue with any bike you own.   Yes the metrics have less as a whole but they do not have the soul of American iron.  I passed up on the Indian which in my gut probably has a better engine but lacked the SOUL of my Harley.  I have reached the age where I am not willing to settle for just another bike.  I am closing in on the big 60 and felt it was time to go for it.  I have friends that have Harley's with 50K-120k, all they require is little love,  just like a woman.   Boy, do I sound like a sexist!  Treat her right and there is a good chance you will have a long, great relationship.  Treat her bad and you will wish you never met.  By the way, my baby's named Mercedes.

The guy definitely wasn't holding anything back when he wrote that, but seemed to know about all the common problems that is water over the dam for most people. I was bored this past weekend and read all of it and found it interesting. I figured I'd throw it out there for some that never saw it or knew about some of the issues.

All three of the Harleys I've owned have never left me stranded or had any serious problems. I never kept any of them long enough (or had time) to rack up any real mileage either, my RG was the longest I kept one and still only had 13,000 when I traded for this Duc ... now I'm sorry I did it! This bike is a blast, handles great and would rape most Harleys on the road, but it just isn't me. I put 400 miles on it last Sunday following my buddy on his CVO SG and I couldn't wait to get off the thing. My ass was sore and my throttle hand constantly falling asleep not having c/c while watching my buddy cranking the tunes with the c/c on, lol. Every time I venture away from HD, I always find myself missing one ... you think I would learn by now. I don't own a stitch of their clothing, but I do love their bikes ... to me nothing looks or sounds better.

One thing I always wondered ... Does anybody in the aftermarket make any kind of idler gear-type tensioners that would replace the shoes? I'm not even sure if there's room in the cam chest for them or not. That would be my fix for that if there is such a thing. They would be more quiet than gear driven cams and the bearings for them would be in a constant bath of oil.

I will be getting another HD, just not sure if I should settle for the Daytona Blue Ultra I love or wait til the new RG comes out soon.

As an Engineer there are many products I think could have been made better, but from experience I know that the business machine doesn't always agree with  what's best for the consumer. By design, nothing is made to last anymore, motorcycles are no exception.

As Roadie says, I enjoy the soul of the machine, and while I may sacrifice happiness in other areas, I'm not willing to settle on the happiness riding our Harley gives us.

Miles of smiles; miles of smiles

The Daytona Blue is a good looking bike, but I'm waiting to see what HD does with the RG's. Good luck with whatever decision you make. :2vrolijk_21:
