It will be interesting to see how they price this new "long block" versus the price for the old reman program and the price for new crate engines. This method will allow them to use the regular production processes (including automation), eliminates the time and labor involved in cleaning, teardown, and inspection of parts involved in the reman program, and is likely to cut their costs significantly. Btw, one of the things about this change that isn't obvious until you read to the end is that this new program is not available for EVO's, so those folks will no longer have a "factory" option for rebuilds. I wouldn't be surprised to find other companies like S&S stepping in to that piece of the market for those who prefer something other than a local dealer or independent shop rebuilding their engine.
