We've done some miles together, not sure who keeps who where but you are a great team.

Thanks pal,

We still have at least one more trip to Nelson for a final Pre-planning trip so I am sure we will put many more miles on our bikes together.  You will have to give me some lessons on how to work this damn Zumo.

it would be nice to leave the bay area and head over tioga pass thru yosemite if heading toward vegas. this is some of the best calif has to offer!

Van's right.  This route takes you through Yosemite National Park via Tioga Pass, down hiway 395 to Lone Pine and then across Death Valley and into Pahrump, NV and on into Las Vegas.  It's the same way that I recently went down to Vegas.....see this link:  http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1164342273/0#0

And the same way that Duke, Fred, myself, and others went to Cripple Creek!  Only difference was that we took 108 over the hill.

If we leave San Jose in the morning, what would be a good place to stay the night?

I think a midway stop would be better.  We are trying to cover some good ground but also want to take it easy and enjoy the sights.  I think Lone Pine looks like a good midway point.  This would leave us with a great ride the next day!  Thanks JC for your advice.

Mike,
We are definetly going to set aside some time to see the Nor-Cal group!  I have heard a lot about HD-Dude's garage and would like to see that [smiley=drink.gif].  Either way, the beer's are on us!

Canuck,
How far North do you plan on beginning. Have done it on a 47 Bonneville Chief from Tillamook to Ventura. Just gorgeous. On Hwy 1 you may consider weekday travel as travel trailers spend more time across centerline than in their lane.

Ima29, they're coming down from Nelson, BC over to the coast and down, I'm sure they'll hit Hey 1 by the time they get to Oregon.

I am leading a ride for 15 bikes (20 people) and they are a somewhat motley crew so I don't think you will want us dropping by your home [smiley=nervous.gif].  Our trip is taking us through Nelson for the Toadrock Rally (July 1st) and then down through Portland to the PCH and then down to San Jose and across to Las Vegas.  Then it is back North to Salmon Arm, BC for the Summer Stomp which finishes on July 15th.  Then it is down to Nelson for the CVO Rally on the 16th.

Any known stops from Portland to San Jose would be great.  Thanks a bunch.

Hey Kelly,
Tillamook is where we hit the Highway 1.  We come through Portland and before that we are on the Lewis and Clark Highway #14.  Unfortunately, we won't have the leisure of keeping our travel to the weekends so we will have to take the holiday trailers head-on!  Looking forward to the scenery though.  Your ride in the 47 Bonneville would have been a hoot.

When you wake up in Lone Pine, you want to head out early and be sure to stay hydrated and carry a bottle of Gatorade in your lap.
