Picked up New 2014 CVO Limited On Saturday
« on: June 30, 2014, 09:48:25 AM »

Traded In the 2009 Ultra Classic CVO with 80,000 miles on it, Well I put 450 miles on the New CVO Limited down here in the Texas heat over the weekend, they have come a long way and made some really nice upgrades, but my #1 choice is still my 2010 goldwing, it is but ugly and sounds like a sewing machine, but 9-1 It will still out handle and out perform the CVO, That wing is just so Nimble and so quick it is unreal, as I am not the Normal wing rider, I am as aggressive on it as I am the CVO and the spyder...

I am ready to buy another one, though it is still a nice scooter.

Sold my wind and bought the CVO.    Wing was top heavy, quick, quiet, no fun,    CVO.  Not top heavy. Easily thrown around and more fun.

Well first of all there are no top heavy MCs by physics. It might feel like they are but probably not the case. It's mostly rider techniqu related.

The Wing is for sure not top heavy. The tank is in the frame for once.

Love my CVO limited but I am not kidding myself. It's a pig on roller skates  :drink:

Well when you hit the 60's at my age and your still doing 400-700 miles a day on the twisties with a passenger they all feel heavy by the end of the day, I drop one of my tour bikes at least once a month, I have to flag somebody down to pick it up for me....I will just take a photo and put it on Face Book, all my friends say you should be embarrassed but I usually just tell them that is how I park it....It is hell to only weigh a 140 pounds and ride any one of the almost 1,000 pound bikes....

That is impressive. Keep in rolling. I have hope on hitting 60 in 10 years but the 140 will most likely not happen. Aiming for 160.

Different bikes have different weight distribution.  That is why some feel heavier to pick up off the jiffy stand than others that weigh the same overall or even less.   It has nothing to do with rider abilities.  They are just designed different and that is what people are talking about when they feel top heavy.

That's true when the MC is stationary. Not moving under power.

I still respectfully disagree.  Take 2 bikes with the same setup and overall weight except have the bulk of the weight higher on one and it will have a top heavy feel to it.  That is simple physics.  Go ride an Ultra  and then take a street glide and add enough weight in the saddle bags to equal the overall weight of the ultra.  Then tell me the ultra doesn't feel top heavy.

Ridden proper it does not matter. I have hade so many people telling me the BMW LT is top heavy and hard to maneuver at parking lot speeds. Ridden properly it does not matter at all.

But of course if you load a bunch of stuff on top of things and then go off roading then it does matter. But on the street, nah. It's the rider. But your theory on physics is of course correct. My point is that it does not matter if you ride the MC properly.

You can have the same argument with weight. Does not matter much since I don't plan on carrying it. (And any MC up to 1,000 Lbs us easy to pick up with the correct technique.) but I am digressing.

Most of us here on this site are close to you both on age and dropping our bikes on a regular basis. Whats important is that you get it back up (for me, with someones help..) and keep on going!

Of course if you ride any motorcycle properly it doesn't matter.  Not disputing that.  But one with a lower center of gravity will be easier to handle even on the street.

Happy riding and keep the rubber side down!

All these bikes are heavy.  Don't care if the wing is top heavy or not,  its a plastic couch with no soul.  after riding my road glide for a day,  then jumping on my kitted out versys,  the RG is a tank and the versys is a ginsu knife.  It blasts to triple digit speeds in a flash, and will eat twisties for dinner.  My glide,  eats miles and does it with attitude.  Different bikes for different purposes.  But a wing will never win over me compared to a harley.

To me; the Goldwing is a two wheel car. More practical?? YES! I don't ride a Harley to be practical. Not knocking them, they are great machines. They just don't light my fire like my Harley does.

I asked my Goldwing friends, "why are you always lagging through the twisties?" Two of them said, "it's because if we lean into a corner our feet hit the ground and we'd rather just go slower than lifting our feet off the pegs".
