Ipod not responding
« on: July 20, 2014, 03:39:36 PM »

Any one ever have issues with their Ipod not responding?

Lately when my Ipod has been on I sometimes lose my right side speakers, front and rear. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. This never happens with the radio station on

So I figure it has to be a kink in the wire somewhere. So today I take off the outer fairing, the seat, and the saddlebags. I found an area under the seat where the Ipod wire could have been getting pinched. So I move the wire and wire tie it to one of the large bundle of wires, plug it back in, and now I get Ipod not responding. I also got a message that some Ipod hard drives can get damaged and then asks me if I want to continue to press "okay".

Not sure what is going on? Any suggestions or ideas?

I have already tried unplugging the Ipod and the connection wire. And charging the Ipod

Now what?

Stereo works fine in every other mode except for the Ipod

Thanks

Try a factory reset to the ipod

Do you know for sure that will work?

If it is the old style ipod you shouldn't use it on the bike. I tried mine on there and had all of the same problems. Something about the ipods being hard drives and not digital like the ipod nano.

It's the Ipod that came with the bike

I've had to replace a couple of the cables that run from the iPod module to the iPod nano due to bad connectors.  Cable is available separately, and part of the original 2 year warranty

I have a similar issue on mine , except mine just doesn't work at all sometimes. Discovered that if I hold my mouth just right when plugging it is ill get it to work, that's to say I think there is a bad connector issue with mine at lease. Not sure if it would cause different speakers to come on and others not to work  like it sounds like yours is doing.

I am leaning towards this issue. I am going to pick up a cable today to allow me to plug the ipod into the aux port on the dash and see if the Ipod works normally through there. That should help identify if it's the Ipod or the cables

I was hoping someone might know of a way to reset the Ipod within the bike, but I can't find that anywhere. I did try pressing the bottom center button 3 times as suggested on another forum, but to no avail

Thanks

you can do a reset on your ipod, hold the power button and the volume down button for a few seconds until the apple logo appears.  this will not lose any data on your ipod.

but i don't think it will do anything for your situation.  sounds to me like you have a bad cable.  the one that connects to the ipod module up under the fairing and runs back to your ipod itself.  hope yours is under warranty, that cable runs over $80.....

Not telling tales out of school here but it's the cable.  Same deal with Skunk Ryder's ipod.  Right side was intermittent using the ipod on our trip last August then it finally stopped playing the right side all together and only when using the ipod.  CD and Radio worked fine.  Didn't matter what ipod either (used mine, my iPhone, and my old ipod touch....still no right side and they all worked fine in my scooter).  Left side speakers worked fine.  After the dealer replaced everything BUT the cable, they finally got approval from HD to replace the cable under warranty (he still had remainder of his factory) and "waller", ipod worked great....no issues.

From what you describe, if you keep going, you will eventually loose the entire right side speaker bank no matter when you use your ipod.  Replace the cable (or have the dealer do it under warranty) and it should be right as rain..... ;D
