Ride Stuttgart to Piacenza, Italy
« on: July 21, 2014, 07:22:46 AM »

I have been planning a trip down to Italy to buy the wife's Xmas present for the past couple months.  Work has been slow the past couple weeks and the weather looked promising this past weekend.  So I told my son (8 yrs old) to pack for a 4 day road trip, we are going camping in Italy.

Woke up Thursday morning packed the bike and off we went.  Figured we would stay on the autobahn though Germany to give me as much time off road through Switzerland.  Driving through the ALPs through Switzerland was amazing.  (Pics to Follow when I down load them from the camera.)  Once we got into Italy we hopped back on the autobahn, will never do that again.  But finally we got to the camp ground, got everything set up and relaxed for the rest of the day.  We covered about 350 miles total on the way down in about 7.5 hours.

Friday we woke up early again and headed out to find to wife's Xmas present.  Spent about and hour looking for a bank/ATM and then a gas station that took cash.  We stayed off the autobahn all day looking for a marble store.  Luckily a nice person drove us to a place were we could get what I was looking for.  Then we headed back to the camp ground so my son could enjoy the river.  Only traveled about 60 miles.

Saturday we checked the weather and decided to head back a day early.  No fun getting caught in rain while traveling through the mountains if you can avoid it.  So we packed up and headed back.  This time took a mixture of autobahn and back roads through Italy.  Then went back to the back roads through Switzerland.  Hit the same mountain pass that we hit on the way down, thank you garmin.  But it was still a LOVELY ride and view.  Once back in Germany we did once last gas stop and headed home.  Covered about 400 miles on the way home in 8.5 hours.

Over all had grate weather and an even better time with my son.  Where to go next?
