A good friend of mine has had motor issues so bad he finally gave up and bought a new Indian in  Blue with the windshield and brown seat and bags. Pretty much same setup as his Road King and it is a 1996 model. He seems real happy but I have been ribbing him bout those fringes. HAha.

All your friend has to do is get a set of matching leathers, and he is good to go.  ;)

That's a better look without all the bags, faring, lowers and tourpak. Guess I just don't appreciate the Indian look with the side skirts. I bet a good saw or plasma cutter would take care of that in a hurry. Might be some aftermarket tin available or that can be modded to fit. Oh I'm such a picky bastard.

The exhaust on the scout doesn't look quite as bad from the side (but still, still purdy dang yougly).  Blurb from the Indian website:

The Legend is Back. Like its iconic forerunner, the all-new Indian® Scout ™ is an innovative and aesthetically stunning American cruiser. It introduces the first-ever liquid-cooled Indian Motorcycle engine – an efficient and reliable 69 cubic inch V-twin – for impressive power on demand. This new model carries the legendary Indian® Scout™ name into the future in authentic Indian® Motorcycle® style.

I'll say this and obviously this is my opinion, the Scout looks 1000 times better than the 500/750 Street HD just came out with.

Hmmm, looks like Polaris is aiming for something.  Wonder what/who that might be..... ::)

I don't know. The Scout would appear to be aimed at some other market. The Street models seem to me to be aimed squarely at the UJM market.
The Scout seems...Damned if I can see it's target.
