Thank you phato1
I've talked a fee others and they agree with the tech.

Would removing the baffles help if it's due to exhaust restriction
I believe the issue is actually not enough restriction/backpressure with them and the fact that the pipe length is on the short side of what you want for maximum performance. Taking the baffles out would probably make it worse.

I'm going to have to go somewhere else because the tech just told me he didn't see an issue with the tune and the dead spot is due to the pipes.

This is his exact message to me, "Hey Gregory I checked your bike out today. Unfortunately I couldnt do anymore tuning with it. Really the problem with the flat spot is really your exhaust pipes. They look cool and sound cool but just not the best for overall performance."

I'm really annoyed.

Obviously the "tech" isn't a real tuning professional, so he is pulling the old "must be the pipes" BS excuse.  Yes, pipes like the Big Radius are definitely more for show and noise than performance, but that doesn't translate to huge flat spots if the tuner knows what they're doing.  Why would your bike with the same exhaust as others on this site have problems that those other folks don't seem to have?  Same pipes, same engine and drivetrain, only difference is the "tech" and the tune.

Find a real professional tuner.  I don't remember you ever telling us for sure exactly what tuning device you have.  If it's the Street Performance Tuner, it's useless and you should tell them you want your money back.  If it's the SE Pro Super Tuner, then a good professional can do a full tune with that device.  Did the dealership give you an orange module?  If you bought either of the Harley devices you should have been given an orange module which is the VCI, or Vehicle Communications Interface.  That is what you must have to load new maps to the ECM.

I have basically the same set up with a little extras and it really sounds like a sorry tune. Yeah the pipes have a flat spot but you can get that out with a set of baffles. I had dealership tuning problems because all they do is install the tuner and throw a cann map at it and call it good. I didn't see real gains until I had it dyno'ed and a map built for the bike.

I installed the big city thunder baffles and the flat spot was gone but I really didn't see the flat spot until the upper rpms anyway. These pipes don't have any restriction in them and the flat spot you are noticing is the lack of backpressure. A good tuner can pull the flat spot out and make it run like a beast.

I have rode allot of different harley's and they all have their perks but the breakout is by far the funest in my book. Once you dial in the engine and suspension you will truly enjoy it. You are in Dallas quit screwing around and go to GRC and Git-R-Done, have fun.....

I have a 2013 CVO BO with BR 2 into 2 and no flat spot. The dealer dyno'ed the bike when installing the pipes and the SE stage one. The bike has lots of low end torque and runs great. The first time they swapped out the pipes the bike would backfire when cold. Took it back and they adjusted the air/fuel mixture (don't know what that means or if I'm even using the right terminology since I am mechanically challenged) but no problems with the bike since.

Sorry, Jerry...... :nixweiss:

No need to be sorry Wes.  I'm sure you know what you meant, and sinner knew what you meant.  Just thought I'd make the correction before someone else came along and read this thread some day, then showed up on my front porch looking for a tune.   ;D

Ok guys, I spoke to GMR and they have an account with the dealer that I bought my bike from and where it's being worked on now and GMR will be correcting the tune via the dealer.

The dealer is stepping up and taking care of the issue and having GMR retune the bike.  I'm very impressed with GMR for going the extra mile and talking to the dealer had with the dealer for letting an outside source fix the bike.

It will be dyno tuned next week.

Will do and I might add GMR 577 cams and lifters while they have it.

Update.... The bike is still at Harley and now they are replacing the fuel pump. They claim to have had another breakout do the same thing as mine and it was the fuel pump, so they are waiting for the part.

I've owned the bike a month gas it's been at Harley for 3 weeks..... Really annoyed.

I sure hope that means they actually tested the fuel pump, and aren't just trying the old "change parts until you accidently fix something" routine.

Yes, I remember several members on this site posting about defective fuel pumps recently, so perhaps this is at least part of your problem.  But I sure would be more confidant, while waiting another week or two for a part, if I knew they had actually tested the fuel pump and verified it was indeed defective.

Good luck.  And in the future, you might want to find a better shop.
