Potential 110ci Troubles
« on: August 16, 2014, 02:58:48 PM »

I have a 2013 CVO RoadKing with around 9500 miles on "Ole Red". I have had ZERO issues as of yet besides tire problems. I've read others that have had many issues with their 110's. Even my sales person has told me after the fact that these engines don't last long. Am I just lucky or is it something I have to look forward to. Now I don't ride it like a sport bike, I ride it like a touring bike. I know some people ride like they stole it, hitting rev limiter and what I call crazy. If that is the case I may have to look at other options like another member did and as far as I can tell has no regrets. What's says you?

I believe you have the b lifters on your bike. My recommendation is just ride it and do maintenance at the scheduled intervals.

I do keep up with the maintenance schedule for sure. I even change the engine oil mid way at 2500 miles. I guess reading some of the post kinda spooks me. I love my bike for sure and have it looking the way I think should be. Like everyone says, it definitely has soul. I guess I fail to realize people tend to post aw s---s and not attaboys. Like I said earlier, I have had no problems what so ever. Just apprehensive now, maybe over analyzing.

I ride mine (2014 Breakout) at low RPMs (around 2200).  I spoke with a technician concerning vibrations around 2700-2800 in hot weather and he told me that these bikes are not built to run at 2200, that I should shift at much higher revs and never use the 6th gear under 70 mph.  If it vibrates, give more throttle...  Also, the pinking noise comes with the 110 and I should get used to that...

Puzzled......   :nixweiss:

I have my 2014 CVOBO set up for low end Tq and it peaks at 3600 RPM... A stock bike peaks higher than that I expect.  I run between 2300 and 3600 rpm and shift between 3500 and 4000 RPM and shifting is smooth in all gears.  I consider this setup conservative for a 110 and the engine should not have problems.  I have 14000 miles on the 2014 and put 50k miles on my 2011 Convert run the same way... No problems.   The pinging may be part of the stock setup but once tuned correctly there should be no detonation pinging.

I'll be honest, I have not experienced the pinging or abnormal vibrations. I have a coworker that has a 2013 CVO Ultra with around the same mileage and had a compensator go bad. I've only had tire issues, front tire cracked sidewall and rear got a flat replaced then picked up a nail. Luckily I bought the tire coverage so it paid for itself plus some. I have an extended warranty too.

That sounds good Mount'nman. I ride and shift similar. So I guess I'm going to keep on doing what I'm doing

You have extended warranty which imo is another reason to leave it alone and ride it.

As long as you're still under the 2 year factory warranty period you can purchase the ESP. I did this and so far it looks like it will work out in my favor when I add up the cost of repairs --and I still have a few years to go.
