Looking for header pipes for my CVO Limited
« on: August 29, 2014, 03:12:15 PM »

Ok about ready to change out the stock head pipes for something else. Service advisor suggested the V & H X-Pipes work good on the 110's. Its what they suggested. So i'am asking does it really make a difference as long as the CAT is removed. I already have some V&H slipons already on bike. Just trying to eliminate some heat & get some better performance. Thanx in advance.

Went with Fullsac ceramic headers specific to the 110.  They now have several varieties.

You can decat your head pipes and send them to get ceramic coated or

FuelMoto has them - http://www.fuelmotousa.com/harley/exhaust/fm-13-flh-spc.html
Fullsac has them as well - http://fullsac.com/product-category/exhaust/x-pipes/

And you keep your stock chromed shields...

Or you can do the V&H as the dealer suggested...

I've had the TTS/ Fullsac products on previous bikes. Fullsac is a good product was looking for some other products as well.. The maps that come with TTS are close but still need to get tuned for proper running. Not all bikes are the same.

Below is an earlier post by Doc1 regarding headers...

I've fitted a set of V&H Power Duals, and I cannot get the front port to stop leaking.  V&H supply the Evo/SE type gasket, and even trying with two of these in the ports the front still leaks.  The shape of the V&H header where it goes into the port is a little different to other headers, so I'm wondering if I can use the standard TC gasket, which, although it's not recommended by V&H stands a better chance of sealing I hope.

Anyone used the standard TC gasket with V&H headers successfully?

Yes you can....  However I must say, Fullsac is the ONLY company I see making the gasket end of the pipe correctly.....all the other pipe manufactures should follow suit for the best fit.......one more reason to buy FULLSAC.

Dollar to HP/TQ ratio?

I don't think you can beat the cost of a cutting wheel and a $30 re-weld job. A few minutes of your time and $30 VS. a $300+ bolt on part for very similar increases? I'll save the $270+ any day!

Now let's say you are doing Cams, Pistons, Headwork and Throttle Body. Sure.

But a stock motor with new slip ons and a tune is a no brainer to me once you consider how much a couple of HP/TQ costs with a new header. That's a lot of money for 1-2 HP/TQ!

I could possibly cut open the pipes & remove the CAT but not sure where i could get it welded back together.... I was hoping for more than 1-2 HP/Tq gains by changing out the pipes & getting a good tune... Anyways still searching & reading...

Any local muffler shop can weld it up for about $30.

1-2 HP/TQ is the difference I was referring to between a de-catted header vs. A $300+ new from V&H, FuelMoto or Fullsac. De-chatting your stock header will show much different HP/TQ numbers over the stock non de-catted header.

Sorry if I was confusing.

Just a note to be very careful about cutting out the cat. Done properly it will work for a stock bike, done wrong and your in for a lifetime of trouble with it at low engine RPM's (idle to 2500).

I'am not gonna mod the stock pipes. I found some on Ebay already done so may go that route.

Will there be any difference in performance with the stock pipes with cat removed & dyno tuned vs like V&H power duals or D & D fatcats. Just trying to gather all the facts before pulling trigger.

You absolutely will need to get a tuner and find a great dyno guy to do the tune.

A true good quality 2-1 will offer the best dyno numbers. For me, I much prefer the sound of the duals.

IF, Now that's a big if, i were to build the motor to big HP/TQ levels I'd go the 2-1 route. But I don't have the kind of cash and really don't need anymore lower than I have right now.

Well found some stock head pipes that have been de-catted already. Question is will i see much of any improvement going with the stock de-cat pipes vs VH pipes or Fullsac DX pipe. Looking at getting the TTS also. The stock de-cat pipes are $135.00 vs the others at over $450.00

Just pick up the headpipe from Fullsac since you are getting a TTS with his map.  On my 14, I have the DX headpipe, stock mufflers/baffles, and TTS and fullsac map and am very happy (like most fullsac customers)..  The Fullsac headpipe is made well and a lot lighter than the stock headpipe.  If you get the DX pipe, you also get the full size crossover so you have the same sound coming out of both mufflers.
