I agree that the market is soft, for certain. AND...the book prices (as stated) are a reference to what the dealers have been (previously) selling them for. Note that the whole reporting system necessarily has a bunch of lag in it, so the prices probably reflect two month old numbers. I'm under no illusion that the book prices are accurate today, my ONLY point is that the crappy market affects ALL categories and that the CVO price premium hasn't just 'disappeared".
On a related note: eBay is as flaky and feckless as ever when it comes to Harleys. Narrow the search to CVOs and then check "completed listings" and there are scads of listings that ended with -zero- bids or 'reserve not met' and without any logic at all, there are a tiny few bikes with bunches of bid activity and high winning prices #281421480116 for example. It just doesn't make any sense over there on eBay, sometimes.
The same kind of search for non-CVOs reveals that market equally depressed. No one seems to be getting 16~17 for 2010 FLHTCs

CVO ultra's since 2006 for 9 straight years does not help.

Just searched on craigslist for 2010 ultra and asking price varied 16.5 -18.5  Who knows what they actually sell for?  Some were the "limited" ultra's.

2010 CVO asking @ $26    approx depreciation @$12
2010 Ultra asking @$17    approx depreciation @$6

Couldn't disagree more with the title of this thread.

It's just that CVO's are hard to sell for what we want to get out of them.

They'll sell quickly and frequently if the price is right.

Trying to sell one of my own right now and the price isn't just right yet...

5 weeks and counting......My old bike is still sitting at the dealer with a $30,000 price tag on it.

If anyone wants an orange & black 'CUSE7 with a really nice motor, I bet they'd take $28,000 for it.

That's the problem with CL as a gauge.  You're ALWAYS looking at unsold ads there. There's no info on sale completions or end price. The ads that you CAN'T see are the ones that matter, but we can't see those. It sure would be helpful if we could search that information.
Ebay completed is *some* gauge, but ebay prices are just flaky-irregular.
Of course, a CL ad that's been "listed 30 days" would seem to tell us something...but we don't know if the price or details in the ad have changed in that time.
It's ALL info that requires some grains of salt to digest. Follow this with a hefty measure of guess and set a price.
The market is soft. This is a fact.
The bike's worth what a willing seller and willing buyer agree to. Just fact
The price of our goods will always be lower than we'd like.

I'm hoping it gets better(!)

The CVO line has become commonplace unfortunately.   To have the good old days back again when there where two bikes.  And this price tag of the 2015 RGU is a bit excessive considering the additions that need to be made.  I will be giving away my 2013 RG tomoro for
$31,700. It sure is beautiful bike and the buyer gets a brand new 1500 mile road glide for a great price.   I would def wait and buy used next time.  I'll miss her

A good friend of mine bought a 1972 Rolls Royce in 2002 for $12,500. He spent about $25,000 refurbishing it, replacing or repairing everything that needed to be. So he has $37,500 invested in a car that cost well in excess of $100,000 in it's day and would cost well in excess of $300,000 to purchase new.

Nothing retains it value unless it is rarer than rare, desireable as hell and attracts the attention of those who are willing to pay top dollar for the things they want.

I believe this, plus the new Mt Rusmore changes, have caused the resale decline. After the MoCo saw how the CVOs sold, they went from 2 CVO models a yr to several.  I'd speculate they upped CVO production because their profit margin on these bikes was so much higher than regular bikes.  If in the mkt for a new ride, I pick a new Mt Rushmore over a used CVO.

Everything in this world is worth precisely what a buyer is willing to pay for it... and only that.

Not sure how that is giving it away.  It's a two year old bike.  Its 1000 less then MSRP 2 years ago.  Seems to me that is a good deal for you.

Hehehe!  There's a great gulf fixed between "willing to pay", and paying.  Anything and everything is worth preci$ely what you get out of it.  There endeth the lesson.  8) Later--HUBBARD

Looks to me that most buyers these days are wanting a new bike. Most of the dealers around here are filled with used ones. Most of the new 2015 CVO bikes coming to the dealers are already pre sold. The market seems to be softer for the used bikes. I swear during the economy dive the dealers were still always crowded and moving bikes.

BTW I got a buddy that bought a new 14 CVO Road King and had put less than 1000 miles on has already traded it away at the dealer for a new 15 CVO Street Glide. I bet he took a bath.

If I am buying from a dealer, I am buying new. I always look at the used CVO's on the floor and they have them priced near new. Ridiculous.
