TTS - Closed Throttle Spark
« on: September 01, 2014, 10:53:53 AM »

Is there any real limit to the advance you should use in the Closed Throttle Spark table? The area I'm speaking of is the 40c & 64c cells, 1,500 up RPM. The table will allow 50 degrees, is there any real issues going up to say 40 degrees there?

Thanks

Just remember this is the spark anytime the throttle is closed. So if you get it to high you can get a stumble when switching from the closed to open throttle tables.

So far have not seen that Steve. Just have an annoying little "pop" when letting off between shifts, or sometimes in decel. Doesn't continue on, just a "pop" and done.

I use around 30 to 32 degrees from 2000 down. If you are getting a pop or blubber at 1750 rpm that is when the injectors come back on line. If your bike is going into decal (injector ms reads 0) then at 1750 on most maps will have a slight bubbler.....if your injectors are not going into decal it's usually a problem with a large cam that idles at 45 to 55kPa.....then you have your day cut out for you.... :confused5:

Good to hear from you Doc.

But maybe I am not understanding something, I was under the impression we should keep the closed throttle spark in the 700 and 900 RPM ranges at or very near the idle RPM in the main timing tables? So maybe I don't understand the closed throttle table, is it in use "only" at closed throttle when the bike is moving, and has no stand still idle effects?

I'm around 35 kPa to 37 kPa at warm idle, using a Feuling 594.
