Cannonball motorcycle run 2014
« on: September 12, 2014, 08:00:22 AM »

If you love old iron like I do, you might want to google "Cannonball Motorcycle". It is a coast to coast run of 1936 and earlier bikes.  I believe there are 104 vintage riders on the run this year. This is the third running since it started in 2010.  I went to Junction City KS yesterday to catch up with the group which a friend of mine is riding a 1928 H-D JD.   We all complain of mechanical problems, well I have to tell you, our issues are small compared to what they are dealing with on a daily basis.  I was blown away by the old bikes and their riders.  It is like the Who's Who of vintage motor cycling.  There are 4 women riding the run this year, you gota love um.  On the Cannonball website they have a map of the stopping points and at the one I went to there where about 1000 supporters there to great them when the came in.  They have been on the road for 7 days so far and Friday is a rest and repair day,  they will leave on Saturday morning for CO.  It a good reason for a ride to go see them.   You will be amazed at the hardy souls and their machines!

That must be very interesting to check out - I'd love to photograph the antique bikes. There's an annual get together at a museum up the coast from me with many older bikes kind of along the same lines, but they don't do a run that I recall.

I was talking to one of the guys and none other  than Dale Walkler " What's in the Barn" called him while we where talking, just to check in and see how he was holding up.  What an amazing group of riders.

Thanks for posting... This would be an amazing sight to see for sure and no doubt some wonderful stories to hear.

I will keep this website on file and check for the next run because it would definitely be worth hooking up with them on the road.

I just wanted to say I'm sorry you had to meet in Junction City, Ks. It truly is the armpit of the world. Unfortunately I was stationed at Fort Riley from 2000-02. Hated that place!

That's funny.  I was thinking the same thing.  My dad was stationed there in the early sixties and even then it was known as an armpit.

Yeah, I was talking to Buzz when Dale Walksler callled. Then Pat Simmons of the Doobie Doobie and his wife Cris pulled up.  Nice folk's.  Like I said it was a Who's Who of the motorcycle world.

 :( :(
I found out too late Thursday that the run had their lunch stop in Gardner, Ks. When they left they went by my house too!
Damn the luck, I'm not retired yet like my brother.
