Finding it impossible to close a deal on new CVO SG
« on: September 18, 2014, 11:56:16 PM »

Warning, rant ahead.

I swear it's never been a problem before. I walk in, make a deal on trade and new bike, pay them, leave. Albeit, this is my first CVO, but these dealers in Texas are all acting like scummers. I'm getting anywhere from 16.5 to 20 for my bike, then anywhere from MSRP to MSRP +3800 extra plus 1k freight and prep. Of course, the dealers with what I want in stock are offering the worst trade and highest price for the CVO, the ones without it are offering the good deal but say it may be until next year before I get one.

I have been saying that I refuse to pay over MSRP, but I am realistic that it all comes down to the final amount due. Time to start looking up the dealers way outside the metro dealers.

Feel your pain. The Texas market is tough in terms of getting a good/fair deal. I was quoted the same 4k above MSRP. If the consumers would STOP paying the jacked up pricing the dealers would stop it but as long as they can sell them at those prices it will be tough for those of us not willing to get robbed.

I'm in El Paso and we run across the same issue. Most of the guys around here run up to New Mexico or Arizona to purchase their bikes. Sad but true, I wish MOCO would put a price lock on bikes.

Keep working it, that bike is really nice....

I feel the pain as well.  I am trying to buy one also.  I am hoping to have one by November.  If Black Friday comes and I don't have it.  The cvo fender and 124 are going on my 2010.

X2.  Wait for the initial "hoop-la" to fade away and I'm sure the price will come down.  BTW, there are too many MSRP dealers out there to have to pay over sticker.  You may have to drive 10 hrs, but isn't that worth it to save $4k+?

I'v gotten three call backs from two deals asking me to come back and discuss.  It seems that some deals are falling through with those that made a deposit prior to delivery....at least here in the east coast.

But in oil country....when the economy is going good...it a different world.

I'd always be willing to fly somewhere to get a new scoot and ride it home if the deal was right.

I guess it's bitter sweet to know it's not just the DFW area going thru this madness. I'm certainly fine with traveling to get one, I'm just anxious.

If I were looking to replace my 2010, which I'm not, I'd probably get a '15 SG Special for $23K tops, and sink $7-$8K in motor upgrades and a bunch of chrome goodies and end up with the look, performance and dependability I want. Can't see shelling out $36K+ for a platform to work off of. Can't even put a rider backrest on it without a new seat.

OTOH, if you're gonna keep it stock and trade it in after a couple of seasons...never mind.

Always up for a road trip to save money. MSRP + freight is bad enough. Last CVO I bought went 3 hrs to save $500.00. Not everyone has time to do that, but it was more about the principal and my local dealer than the money.

In late 09 (10 model year) I shpped all the dealerships in Nor Cal.  I got my best offers from the small town dealerships and eventually got the best deal (under MSRP plus extras) up in Redding, Ca. of all places.  Who would have thought that a little mom & pop dealership would offer the best deal.  Ya gotta go where they're hungry.

Not sure how far you are from Dillon's in Omaha, but they gave me a crazy deal. List price, $15k for trade difference and $4k in upgrades.

I've found the same thing.  Those smaller dealers in less affluent areas don't have the customer base for $37k+ motorcycles.  I bought my first CVO in a small town shop for under MSRP, when elsewhere they were going for over sticker.
