Tried several times, best shot I had would have been in 89 but I missed knowing it was for sale by about 24 hours.  Probably would have been a serviceable debt then, but now with the Taj Mahals that the MoCo requires, I doubt it would make sense in my market.

I spoke with a very large Texas dealer and he said the only way they work well is in a major metro type area, otherwise I think all you do is buy a job and I have one of those.  Plus I have four franchises to deal with currently and they all have attitude, I'm not sure I could handle another.

[highlight]But, I do have my hand in the air with the local dealer who is near retirement, just in case[/highlight].

I hope you get it Rog. I know you'd let me keep my 2 Year Warranty no matter what I do to it! ::) Right? ;) Rog, All the best for a Healthy and Happy Holiday to you and the family! [smiley=drink.gif] Hoist!  8-)

That's the way it is here now, so why change it.  Obviously within reason, if it's a factory part it's covered, heck I have the 7/70 and expect it to be that way for 7 Years.

Interesting discussion.  Appreciate the feedback!  This is warranty work and I did bring in my own Mobil 1.   Have not had a problem with the dealer putting my product in during regular service.  Will find out when I pick up the scoot this afternoon if this policy is just during warranty work or at all times now.  [highlight]The service folks were quite adamant that this policy came from HD in the last few weeks[/highlight].   [smiley=confused5.gif]

Ask them why HD only sent it to their dealership?

SR...let us know how this turns out, as I'm sure others would be interested in comparing notes.  Particularly interesting since you've not had the issue previously.

I'm with Jerry about the dealer's working on my bike from now on...I'm keeping my extended warranty for stuff like engine flying all to pieces, starter going, radio issues, etc.  That's why there was no way in he!! I was going to let them install my handlebars, and when the time comes for me to upgrade the motor a bit, I'll figure it out myself with the help of the experts on this site!!

Rog, are you a player for an HD dealership outside of your home area?

Have my bike in the shop today and specifically asked about any mandate from HD regarding oil and I was told by the Service Manager that there has been nothing to his knowledge.

Picked bike up this afternoon.  A day and 3/4 for a 2.5 hour job and with an appointment.  Gotta love that service.  Anyway, here is what I was told.  The dealership will NOT put any lube in not recommended by HD.  Therefore, Syn3 is it. Asked if this was only for warranty work and was told; "No, even on an oil change they will not put in Mobil 1 or any other product I might bring in."  Tried to get them to say whether this was a HD policy or theirs alone.  They hinted it was from HD but would not want me to use their name if I complained to HD about it.  Not sure how far to press.  Will just do it myself or take elsewhere if that is the attitude. Would be interesting to know if other dealers are doing the same thing.  We already have at least one comment that a dealer has heard of no such edict.

BTW-Glad I had the extended warranty.  Since the ride is over 2 years new I was charged the $50 deductible for warranty work vice the total of $204 for the complete job.

I really am anchored here currently.  Building two homes and the store here would be convenient.  I know the HD agreement requires on site ownership and I would put it down the street from the new car store on some land I have near the freeway.

This place can run itself with the team I have here so I could easily be at the HD location.

Thanks for asking though.

My dealer will put fluids in you bring, and also parts that you bring. Had them install my cam upgrade package for me, and last service switched to Amsoil and Redline. It sounds like they are trying to put the customer between a rock and a hard place with this type of treatment. Some customers will accept this treatment, but hopefully more will become informed and demand they have what they want in their scooters, or take their money somewhere else.

Well, that one pegs the Bull$h!t-o-meter!

When I took my bike to Bumpus' in Memphis for the cams/oil pump/pipes upgrade, I also took Mobil 1 V-Twin for them to put in the crankcase, which they did without any issue.  That said the dealer here in Peoria won't install parts that you don't buy from them, or presumably, oil that you bring in.  So, I just take it to someone who will. My local dealer-Jim's HD in St Pete, will put in any fluids I bring in except Amsoil!! They will not however order or install Rinshard TD's. The SM said that the owner will not allow  the Rinehards because they are not 50 state compliant. Go figure.

Roger- I have a reason to go to the dealership in Bellingham. When I was there last in 2005 they had what I thought to be one of the best lookin women I've ever seen working in a HD dealership. I need to go all the way back out there to see if that was just a figment of my imagination, or something like that. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I have no idea. The Asst SM just shook his head and said "No Amsoil". I didn't push it as I was interested in the Mobil 1 and the Redline products. I will be glad to ask them when I am up at the dealership. We are fortunate to have a very well respected tuner in our area-Wes Brown- and he recommends and uses nothing but Amsoil.

Thanks. As you stated Amsoil is recommended by so many just was wondering why they specifically decided not to install that brand. [smiley=confused5.gif]

'd00d,

I think it's called the "duh?" factor.  Either that, or perhaps the local Amsoil distributor is hangin' out with the service manager's wife????
