New CVO destroyed
« on: October 08, 2014, 08:04:47 AM »

hi guys, I need some advise regarding my CVO, my CVO breakout is 3 weeks old, took it in for first service last week, ya I did 1600km in 3 weeks, love the bike.

However, the centre sent me the bike on a trailer as I had to travel and the bike was not ready for me to take it. To my surprise, the bike was damaged during transfer, the straps used to secure the bike on the open-air trailer was not secured properly, metal buckle head kept banging on the bike for the 3 hours trip.

The whole right side of my new bike was damaged, chips everywhere, starting from the fuel tank all the way down to the brake pedal and reaching the rear bumper.

Now they have offered to fix the bike, for free, that will include the fuel tank, pipes, bumper, cylinder head, gasket head, air intake, brake pedal, break lever, foot peg, literally every item on the right side.

I'm really worried about all these changes and the longterm effect on my bike life and reliability specially opening my engine cover to change the cylinder head, CVO Breakout has already had many issues as it is without made fixations as I read here, what do you guys advise me to do? Shall I ask for the bike to be changed to a new one, shall I go ahead with the recommended repairs, shall I not let them.

Really appreciate your advice and input. Thank you all

Well that sucks.

May as well let them fix it. Odds are pretty good they are not going to replace it.
At least they offered instead of making you go through your insurance.

Maybe you can get them to do an upgrade or two at their cost for good will.

As the damage is nasty but cosmetic I agree with Porthole - let them repair it and press them to make it right. It may be a long time waiting for a replacement if they can even get one. How something like this could happen is a travesty in itself - pure negligence.

I suggest you let them fix it ... that being said ,  it should be all "New Parts" tank and all ... Not just painting the repair!!!!!

I agree with this. As long as all the damaged parts are replaced with new ones you'll be all set.
May take a while for the painted parts though....

Why doesn't anyone respect other peoples belongings the way it seems we used to?  Just seems like people have no fear of consequences when they don't.

Well somebody sure as hell better fix it and they better know what they are doing unlike the guy that transported your baby. I assume it is a Harley dealer that is performing the 1600km maintenance. You should not have to get your insurance or anyone elses insurance involved. You do not need any paper trail of that type of work being performed as if it was in an accident. I would demand the work be performed using genuine new HD parts. I would also demand a new loaner bike of your choice free of charge until the work is completed to your satisfaction...you should not have to miss any riding due to their negligence. The free upgrade or two of your choice sounds like a good idea or free future maintenance i.e. 5k and 10k required intervals. However it is hard enough to know if the proper maintenance is being performed when you are paying for it let alone if it was for free.  Whatever would make you happy. I might even have an attorney put my "demands"in writting just so they know I am serious. For sure I would be pissed and let them know that I am...hell I'm pissed and it isn't even my bike. Good Luck and Stay Safe!!!
P.S.
From now on make them use an enclosed trailer...

Thanks a lot guys, appreciate your advise and sentiment, furious cannot even start to describe how I feel.

Here's a picture of part of the damage,
Can't ask for a loan bike as I took the bike off the dealer until all parts are ready for installation, can't trust to leave my babe there 1 minute unattended, they will all be new genuine harley parts, they sent me a quote list, will cost about 6000 $ parts and 1700 $ labour.
what upgrades do you think I should demand??

Did they fire the person who did the transport? I can just imagine having to go back to the shop and explaining that situation to my employer. Probably worst things have happened but that was inexcusable.

Man that sucks! I hope they fired the idiot who hauled it AND make him pay for the damages. I would definitely demand new replacement parts versus painting or trying to fix the damages. I'm sure you're obligated to let that dealer make things right, but for such negligence as that ... it would piss me off enough to take the new parts to a dealer you could trust. I hate when people don't respect what you spent your hard-earned money on, that's bullchit ... good luck and hope you come out ahead on this.

That is a strong approach. I would be asking what other amenities they might provide for the inconvenience of the situation. As long as they are working hard to make things right no need to be aggressive.

Not your issue how they handled the individual who hauled the bike. How many of use have made stupid mistakes?
