Power HP 2015
« on: October 08, 2014, 09:47:42 PM »

Is it listed anywhere what the factory 2015 110 twin cooled motor produces?
The MoCo advertises 115 ft pounds of torque but no HP numbers.

What upgrades already exist on this motor? Thinking about what I need to join the 100hp group.

The only information Harley provides is that they claim 115 lb-ft of torque at the crankshaft.  They never have, at least in modern times, advertised horsepower numbers.

Real world horsepower in stock condition, at the rear wheel, will likely be in the high 70's/low 80's.  The stock cam is a low end torque cam, and doesn't produce big horsepower numbers.  If you want an honest 100+ rear wheel horsepower, you will need different cams as well as exhaust and a good tune.

My god man you have to be careful about believing all the MoCo says. :D Jerry is correct the facts are given and may be a bit happy and written in a vague and possibly misleading fashion. I think you may need to add compression also to get the power you are looking for.

Well the highway pegs and tour pack came in so I stopped over to the Stealership to schedule the 1000 mile service. After to speaking to the service guy I think I will lump out the 300 frog skins for the service. Its quite thorough and changes all the fluids so I guess I'm good with it for the first one.

I spent a bit of time talking power numbers and warranty issues. I can get pretty close to the 100 hp group with a set of cams, pipes and a tune. Something like 95 hp at the rear wheel by his account. He said it will be a night and day comparison to the stock set up. I guess I will see how ambitious I get in the winter with this idea. Translation: how well I do justifying the expense in my mind!  ;)

Would you pay $300 for an oil change to your car?

Mark, what does paying $300 for an oil change in my car have to do with this?

He's implying that all you get for $300 service at 1k is an oil change. If a shop rate is $100/hour and you get new oil, filter and some gaskets do you get $300 in parts and labor in exchange? I don't know the answer but I know what I don't know. So I was lucky enough to buy a 3 year maintenance plan and I let my dealer worry the details. I just keep piling the miles on and taking it back every 2500 miles.

All the best,
DH

I agree with Mark,  once you learn to change the fluids yourself you will be amazed at how many times you can do the job for the $300.0 that they charge.  I let the dealership do one free one the first time and after that I was able to use better quality fluids and spend the money on something else.  If you just think about it for one minute and go over the materials used and the labor you will most likely agree that it is a rip off.  By doing it yourself you can actually see any metal debris that may be on your magnets and be aware of any developing situation.  Doubtful a dealer will take the time to do that.  I once brought in a magnetic drain plug from my primary that has so much metal on it I had to remove the cover to get the to the rest, the service manager just said that's normal they all look like that.  At that point I asked him when do you get concerned when you run out of metal.  There is all kinds of info doing a search on the site.

Wow. You guys are really anti-dealership.
My expectations are greater than an oil change first off.
And, I know the people at my dealership. (This may have influence on my opinion)

Learn to change the oil? Seriously? Someone needs to be taught that?
I can see already how I don't fit in here.

I guess its a collective conclusion here that the only thing done on the first check is an oil change.

I am with you.  I buy the prepaid maintenance on our bikes, I also know the only two mechanics that touch them.  Works out good.  799 for two years prepaid on my wife's last bike, 42K on it in 18 months.  So 9 services for 800 dollars is pretty dang good as they do a lot more than change the oil.  Transferred 6 months to my wife's new bike, already had the 1K done, so now its 10 and will end up being 11 or 12 services for that price. :cool blue:  Sure works good as I am gone 1/2 the year at works, so I never have to worry about my wife's bike.

Buy it for mine too, so when I am home, I am riding not working on my bike.  Last bike 10 services and one on the new bike so far, will get one more on the new bike before I renew the pre paid on it.

JPSwino,

100 plus HP is a blast!  My CVO King is at 125HP and 124 Torque, and I sure notice the difference in power to my Mostly Stock CVO road glides

There is a lot of anti dealership here and at times just down on HD in general. I really suspect that on the web it is easy to be negative and aggressive because there is no real fall out for it. I not only better looking on line but a lot tougher also. :D

I don't know if it's really anti dealership as anti wasting money on service.  Wait, did I just say that after buying a $34K motorcycle?
Really, it comes down to what you feel comfortable with when it comes to service.  Some of us here on the site use the dealer for the service and some of us wouldn't take it to a dealer for nuttin.  There really isn't a right or wrong answer here.

However, your original post was asking about HP and I believe what I would call the experts on this site have weighed in and answered that one.  If you spend your money wisely, you can get close to if not into the 100HP club.  I've got about $800 bucks into what I've done to Ginger and she's pushing 95HP and 110 lbft of torque at the rear wheel.  No cams or motor work.  So it can be done.  Just chose wisely in your mods.  Good luck
