« on: October 13, 2014, 03:44:34 PM »

just got my rg the other day  I've noticed the screen is not as bright as my 14 limited was and if the sun is right you can't see it at all. anyone else have this problem or a fix.   I know that the screen it tilted up more than the limited but didn't they test this out?

Same problem, no fix.  When the sun is to your back it's impossible to see the screen and at times can create a glare to your eyes  making it a driving hazard.  I did read somewhere Moco is working on a solution.    :nixweiss:

A solution for what?  They put this bike through the "Rushmore" microscope.  Therefore after all the testing, miles in the saddle by everyday people, focus groups, etc., there aren't any issues.  Everything works perfectly.  There are no issues with anything on this bike.  These are not the droids you are looking for.  Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.......
So, must be operator error.  Thank you for playing and have a nice day.

I'm just joshing a bit......sorta

;D    A little tongue-in-cheek shot at my buddies at the MoCo I see.

I wonder if the average customer realizes that H-D really doesn't test any of this stuff the way they imply in their BS press releases and ads.  I still remember how they claimed they did extensive and exhaustive road testing on the new Twin Cam engines before they were released (over a million miles!), and yet they had major cam bearing failures right out of the gate once they started selling them to consumers.  More recently all you have to do is look at all the early Twin Cooled cooling system failures, also right out of the gate.  I guess when they did all that extensive road testing for the new Road Glide they just somehow managed to only ride in overcast conditions or at night, thus the failure to see an obvious glare problem on the screen of the infotainment system.  Don't worry though, after kicking it around the conference table for a short time they will just ignore it, like they have so many other problems over the years.  Or they will come out with a Mickey Mouse "glare shield" they can sell to the customers, like they did not too long ago for a similar problem with a gauge.  That's their favorite way of fixing their design and engineering screw-ups, make the customer buy another product to hopefully fix the problem.  Kind of like the SE compensator, for those who still remember that BS from 2007-2010.

I'd suggest looking for some matte finish film designed to reduce glare and protect from scratches on phone and tablet screens.

I can't see my screen either when the sun is at my back. But I believe it says in the owners manual not to remove the screen. I think it could void the warranty.

I have experienced the same problem and why can't we have a white back ground and darker colors that contrast for all screens. A sunny day make the unit worthless.

I was thinking the same as Haird before I read his and Jerry's comments. I was riding to Daytona this past weekend and hit a stretch of road that put the 3pm sun perfectly at my back for about 20 miles. I as not a happy camper! I'm thinking "A million plus miles of test riding the Rushmore changes huh MOCO?!!!" Bullchit. I had to ride the whole stretch with my hand up to my face to shield the glare. Real safe I am sure....

Only thing I could think of would be some type of firm, non flexible, piece similar in shape to the screen with a suction cup or two on the back. Where you'd keep it when not in use is another story. I know a crappy method, but I would have used it had I had such a piece on that day. Did it again the next day in another area as well. PITA for sure.

On the subject of screen brightness, go into your settings and turn the "Automatic" off and set it manually to the brightest it will go. Helps during the daytime riding and you can readjust it at night or set it back to automatic.

Knowing MOCO in the past, the "screen saver" is probably there "fix" after the fact for the glare...  :drink:
