Looking like riding and golf don't go together. I am thinking Harley Davidson will never be a proud sponsor of the PGA...

Last fall I rode with an old buddy from high school. He has, I believe, a 2000 or 2002 Wide Glide. He bought it new and it only had 2500 miles on it.

He's one of those guys that has a few cool toys but never uses them. He instead drives a 250,000+ mile Toyota truck everyday and lives in a tiny little older house. He was that way since a little kid.

We just figure he's the guy who buries his money in mason jars in the backyard. You know the type, the one who always claims to be broke all the time with no money when it comes time to buy a soda at 7-11.

I have 26K on my 2013 FLHTCUSE8 and 6K on my 2014 FXSBSE (both purchased new). I live in Minnesnowta, and the riding season (the last two years) has been only about 4 - 5 months long each year. 32K in ten months is pretty good.

Retirement and my move back down south can't come fast enough...

I am gone off shore half a year working, plus about 3 weeks a year in Training away from home.  I average 24K a year on a bike, or more.

My 15 CVO RG Ultra, 6 weeks old has 3750 miles on it, and I was off shore working 3 of the weeks I have owned it.  My hot rod, a 13 CVO King has 14,000 miles on it.  Traded a 12 CVO RG for the 15, it had 45540 miles on it.

When raising a family, 3 girls, I averages a lot less miles.  I was putting 7500 a year on a bike.

I really do not understand a bike that is 2, 3 or 5 years old with less than 3K.

I was getting the 1K service on my bike, at one week old, and a guy was having the 1K done on his two year old bike.  Crazy if you ask me.

This topic, like the idea of trailering, is a personal one.  As most have stated, there can be numerous reasons why someone would buy a vehicle and keep it for occasional rides/drives and those that ride the crap out of 'em as soon as they get out of the dealership parking lot.  I used to average 25K a year on a bike and trade every couple years.  I've slowed down a bit and kept Ginger for 2.5 years (almost a record for me) and had, so far, 27,000 wonderful miles with her.
When I look at that, I see not many miles for those 2.5 years.  Others will look at that mileage and think worn out.  I think letting a good bike/car/truck sit in a garage and gather dust is a waste.  The owner of said vehicles would look at it as preserving their fun.  Potato/Pattato.....

Oh, I too have some golf clubs gathering dust in the basement.....have not played in 13 years.

The first CVO I bought was in 2010, an '07 SEUC that was bone stock with only had 2650 miles on it. The story I was told by the dealer, who had the bike on consignment, was that the original owner was the type of guy that would go out and buy the best of anything he had to have to impress or outdo his friends. He apparently bought that bike for one road trip then parked it in the garage until the economy started tanking and he needed to liquidate.

I think a lot of riders have to find time to get their scoots out as riding doesn’t mesh well with their everyday lifestyles. Until recently I wasn’t able to ride to work as I had a company vehicle and needed to have it available daily. Another issue that keeps my mileage down is most of my activities involve carrying gear/equipment of one kind or another. Solo I can generally make this work, but two up is especially problematic because of the choices involved. This brings up the trailering debate again as well. Historically most of my miles were compiled from vacation or other planned distance trips, not day to day riding. Then there’s the winter of course…  There can be many reasons for low mileage bikes besides a lack of interest.

My FLHTCUSE8 has less than 3,000 miles on it now – until late summer this year I wasn’t home where the bike was since it was purchased in February 2013. I plan to change this when the weather breaks in 2015.

I work full time, can't ride to work and I play golf once a week on average. In a little less than 2 years, I've still managed to put 10,000 miles on my Ultra on weekends, vacations, and holidays. Had a 2011 Heritage before that and traded it in with 1,600 miles after 2 years. Looking back, I had a bike from 1994-96 and sold it with less than 600 miles on it after 2-1/2 years.

I guess it's just a matter of priorities.

I have a 2013 anniversary SERG with less than 2k miles on it, however my golf clubs probably have 4k on them, considering how much I'm out of the fairway LOL-- I exchanged a 2009 SERG for my new bike, I managed about 20k on it in about 4 1/2 years [several trips to Daytona}, I'm now 63 years young. Lately I have found it sometimes easier to just jump in my Ford Raptor, plus I have relocated to California and trust me, the drivers out here don't have a clue that there are motorcycles on the same road, then there's the lane splitting deal, not bad when I was 20,, now I have to check my drawers after some of that--- just saying

Our kids are grown and doing their own thing, which doesn't include mom and pops at times so we spend most of our spare time in the wind. Last time I looked the bike had over 19K on it during this first year and we still have some good weather to ride in yet.

I understand how others don't have the same mileage because of their priorities or commitments. If given the chance though, we'll be out riding, as hanging around the house is overrated.

It just seems strange that I got my bike in the middle of September, have basically crappy cold weather since and still managed to log nearly 1800 while working full time +. And here is my buddy looking at a 2011 and a 2012 each with less than 2K on the odometer! I said to him those bikes are NEW, basically as far as condition (not value) goes. He is aching over not having the cash right now to buy a 2015. So I said to him "Is my bike new?". Of course he says. I say well I've got more miles than both of those bikes so if you aren't hung up on having the "newest" options then these bikes are quite the deal!

Yeah I know its not the same, but I'm just trying to help him feel good about this option. AND dammit, its a fine option while he is paying for his kids schooling.
