I'm an optometrist who fits contacts and does pre and post op lasik exams and would not recommend monovision for a rider. It's not perfect in that you sacrafice some distance vision and a lot of depth perception so judging distances is very compromised. For best vision and depth perception always balance both eyes for distance with contacts, glasses, or lasik.

I have lasik mono. They never told me that I would lose distance vision. Although I complained and was told that I need a "touchup" they decided that my vision was fine on the machine so no touch up.
I don't notice depth perception problems though. No problems going from distance to up close either. I do have some halos after several years and bright lights especially blue leds bother my eyes.
They told me with mono my brain would adjust the distance and up close vision. I have great up close but poor distance. I guess I'm missing some brain cells. Darn '70's must have got 'em!
Screw glasses though!
