1.75" Fullsac
« on: October 30, 2014, 08:27:28 AM »

The only thing that I have done to my CVO Breakout is to install the 1.75" baffles and it is perfect for me.  I don't want to cause any problems with my warranty,  but would I gain anything worth while to retune the bike with what I have?

A good tune will work wonders for your engine and how it performs. These bikes stock tune is designed to comply with the EPA restrictions, a performance tune will allow the engine to perform optimally in conjunction with any modifications you make.

I installed the Fullsac 1.75" power cores and then got a tune from my local HD dealer using the Screamin Eagle Race Tuner. Here are the results. Gain of 4hp and an extra 10 ft-lbs of torque. I don't know what to attribute to the tune or the power cores but it doesn't matter much to me. The power cores are supposed to open up some of the restrictions and the tune take the factory lean AFR (Air to Fuel Ration) and enrichens it (see bottom section of the dyno chart). I am told if I install the DX pipe I might get 5-6 HP extra but not likely to get much more torque.

Simon, how do you like the 1.75s? I hope they are quieter than most. Thinking of recoring mine.

They are much more quiet than my 2" Fullsacs but I don't think there was any dampening material in my muffler after the tech installed them. This time around I did the job myself, got the screens, and left about half the dampening material in the muffler. Good low sound coming out of the exhaust now, no more sewing machine. Even the tech who did the tune comment on the nice low tone.

I had gotten to the point where I "had" to use earplugs my old system was so loud. Much happier with this setup.

Don't be confused on how Harley meets the regulations from our wonderful government, there is no such thing as a EPA map. Harley meets the EPA standards by restricting the air in and out, less air equals less emissions.....less emissions the EPA passes them. Most stock maps are set at 12.5 at wot...this is VERY rich by my standards.

Introducing language new to me.. 12.5 at WOT ? What does this mean?
Alright, I guess I figured this out. 12.5 AFR at WOT (Wide Open Throttle)

Do you believe the Power Core install increased any air flow?

Crap, just got my Fullsac 2.0 cores this week in the mail. I purchased the screen as well. I really don't want a whole lot of noise but do want to increase the low rumble. I guess I will try to leave as much packing material as possible. Maybe I should have gone for the 1.75!?!?!

Just make sure to use the packing material. You will end up using about 1/2 of what you pull out. Just compress the wire screen real tight and wrap it good and then shove it back in.

2" should be fine with packing. Remember, when my tech did the 2" he just ended up throwing the packing away. (another fine mess from my HD tech)

Thanks
I am really enjoying the radio as well
I need my wife to be happy there isn't a huge noise level nor do I want to have ringing in my ears after a long ride. I will pack the hell out of that screen for sure

Not educated enough to answer that question. I would think it would last as long as in the original muffler.

How long does the packing last?

I can't answer your question with any certainty but I don't think the packing will last very long. When I had my cores installed at Doc's I only had about 1800 miles on the stock cans. A fair amount of the packing was already burned away but we put all that was left back in. Granted it does run cooler than it did when stock but I would imagine that after a few thousand miles a good bit of the packing will be gone. The screens should help by keeping it in place, the packing on my '07 (no screens) was all wadded up at the back of the can and probably less than half of it remained when I changed from 1.75" cores to 2". With new packing the 2" cores were quieter at idle than the 1.75's were with the degraded packing.

That "quieter" comment is reassuring. Thanks.
I just spoke to Scott at Fullsac. I am going to swap their sport head pipe for mine instead of drilling the cat out. After I send them my core in return it will only cost me about $279 for this. They have a perfectly set map for this head pipe and the 2.0 core so dyno time is now a not needed and money well saved. So, I will have $201 (cores and screen) + $445 TTS + $279 for head pipe and be on my way. Seems like the best deal ($925) for the performance upgrade I can find. Not sure if there will be a map charge though.
