Former President Ford was a good man who took a tough job at an extremely tough time in our history...he had the unenviable task of cleaning up the mess Tricky Dick had left him with the whole Watergate fiasco, the withdrawal of our troops/civilians when Saigon fell.  He was respected, even though not elected.  Jimmy Carter thanked him during his acceptance speech for helping to heal the wounds in this country, which were many at that time.

He was always a good sport about Chevy Chases' poking fun on SNL too...the ability to laugh at oneself speaks volumes about a person's character.

Tricky Dick never could bring himself to do that for sure.

Something I just learned today, President Ford was quite the athlete. Even though Chevy Chase had fun at his expense President Ford had the opportunity to play pro football but turned it down for politics. What an amazing piece of history we've lived through so far.
