Damn Chief. That looks great! How'd it feel with the PC in compared to the maiden voyage? The heat now? Oh, go out and ride and enjoy it while the weather's good. Plenty of time to talk details (15 days, I mean ::) )  ;)  Hoist!  8-)

I don't have any comparisons because this was the maiden voyage.  I had only ridden it a couple of hundred feet before surgery.  I will say it sounds a whole lot better than with the the stock mufflers.  Those things, while attractive, were almost silent.

Cheers!

Thanks Hoist.

Just got back from the first putt. I'm impressed, impressed that I was able to stay out of it, and with the bike itself.  The 6-speed is beautiful, shifts like buttah. Still getting used to not having a choke to pull at start, but I'll quickly forget I ever had to do that.

I do need a taller windshield tho.

Here area couple of pics of the bike without the tour pak.

Chief,

You might want to try a Clearview windshield with the recurve vs. a taller windshield.  Do you have a download for your PC or are you heading to the dyno...  You are going to install a high flow air cleaner first, right?

Of course, I am a bit biased, but your new ride looks great.  Enjoy!

I've always used windshields from http://www.fastaire.com/.  When the windshield on my SEUC becomes unsightly, I'll order a replacement from Fast Aire.  They're inexpensive, and get the job done.  I used to replace the windshield on my 02 Ultra every year.

The tour-pak removal was pretty straightforward.  Start at the back and just work your way forward.  The MoCo was nice enough to run the audio harness over the top of the tank instead in the wire trays underneath.  That made it real easy.

I haven't tested the power unlock with the tour-pak removed, so I can't comment on if it still works. I hope it does.

Cheers!

Scott,

Thanks for the tip. I'll check out the Clearview.  The 9" just doesn't give enough of a bubble for me.  I feel like the passenger, not the rider.

I got the PC loaded with a map for the 96", but will be ordering the Daytona Sensors Twin Scan II + to do my own tuning.  It will allow me to map out AFR's and then adjust the fuel map to get everything spot on without going to a dyno.  Since I'll be doing my engine changes a bit at a time, I can stay in perfect tune after each change without putting it on a dyno.

For the air cleaner, I already have the SE A/C on my 99, and it has the good K&N filter in it. I'm planning on getting the standard SE A/C and doing a filter swap with the 99.  I'll use the old K&N on the new bike and sell the new paper element on the 99. Kind of like how the 99 now has brand new HD air shocks and the new bike has used Progressive 440 IAS shocks.

How's your project going?

Cheers!

Chief...congrats on your new baby. I just got mine on the 22nd and am under construction as well. ( I tried to post pics but was not able to figure that out)
I have my tour pack off and all the hardware installed but have not went into the harness removal. Is it real staraight forward? Do you pull the tank and snip a few zip ties and it is seperate from all the other harness? Ive seen on this site that some guys are wraping and tucking the harness under the seat. I would rather not do that if it just means pull the tank and remove the harness. I just don't want to cut wires or open up other harness if I can help it.
Can you elaborate a bit here.
What did you do for an amp? I have a Hawg Wired on its way. Just waiting for it before I start rippin to much.

Jerry...the room under the battery box is still the same. My compressor for my Legend"s slid right in on the 4 little luvers in the bottom of the box. That was a simple install.
Off topic here a bit Jerry, but I just wanted to mention that when I did my inner primary I seen what you meant about the compensator on the end of the crank and how it can make the knock on start up. Thanks again

Thanks cheif, Let me know if the saddlebag locks work when you test them. I hope so too otherwise will have to rewire them to do so.

Hey chief , I see you inastalled the V@H classic mufflers. I just installed a set of them myself a few weeks ago and really like them. They are definitely louder than the stock mufflers but not obnoxious. The wife and I went for a 100 mile ride Xmas eve and they didn't bother her at all. ;D

This is the 812-511 that uses the eliminators.  I wasn't aware of anything coming out that uses the sensors. Do you have any information you can post?

Cheers!

Chief

Chief,
Unfortunately, I don't have any hard evidence that I can post.  I've seen some mention of a new PC III for '07 that will use the O2 sensors.  My dealer also has stated the same thing, but no idea as to if/when it will happen.  That was the main reason I went with the SERT over the PCIII, I wanted the O2 sensors functional.  In fact my dealer now isn't recommending and wouldn't do a PCIII for that very reason on any HD's equipped with the O2 sensors.   Sorry I couldn't give you more verifyable information.  :(

Red

Red, What's the concern with the O2 Eliminators? The PC is controlling the System, it's just making the ECM think that the ECM is. The O2 sensors aren't required by the PC, so the A/F is controlled per the initial map and/or Dynotuned corrections. The O2 sensors don't even function thru the entire RPM range. The O2 Elims make the ECM think the O2 sensors are there. I'm curious why they'd be concerned. It's not like your just disconnecting them. Can you get more info or find out why they're concerned? Thanks. Hoist!  8-)

Hoist,
That's what I understood about the O2 eliminators too, but my dealership gave me a long (and most of the time over my head, which isn't hard to do [smiley=nixweiss.gif]) explanation about the sensors being there.  Personally, I think they feel they can "legally" get away with the emission mods to the bike if they leave the sensors in place. [smiley=confused5.gif]  I do wonder why the pipe manufacturers make new '07 header pipes with the O2 sensor bungs installed, if they aren't necessary.  I'm wondering, if this isn't some fear of the EPA and fines if they are caught disabling the O2 sensors...This is just my theory, because I really didn't understand theirs.  (you have to remember, I'm very close to DC, so we get a lot of political double-talk around here. :-X)  I'll see if I can get a "clearer" answer from them when I go in for the 1K and dyno next week.  (Perhaps, they're just using this to sell more SERTs and dyno time??????)

JD,

Congrats on your new scoot too.

Since you are waiting for the Hawg-Wired set, I agree with waiting on removing the audio harness since you need to get inside the fairing to do it. When you're ready, here is a short description of the basic steps.

  • Snip a few ties in the rear
  • Unplug the power lead by the battery, the single grey connector.
  • Remove the ground lead inside "The hole" in front of the battery.
  • Remove the three screws holding the tank console to the top of the tank.
  • Lift up the console and remove the harness wiring from underneath. The wire is held with a couple of hooks under the console.
  • Replace console.
  • Snip extra tie holding audio harness to all other bundles on right side of steering neck.
  • Inside fairing, there are three places where the amp harness needs to be removed and the stock radio wires need to be reattached, both speakers and one other plug on the right side (when facing the opened fairing) at the top of the radio.

That's it. For now, I chose to use the stock radio and speakers, so I reconnected the factory leads to my speakers.

Good luck and have fun with your new baby.

Cheers!
