I've not heard a Woods 888, but the W8 sound like marbles in a coffee can. Awesome power, if you can get past the racket.

it's a little better    ;)  Funny a 8 cam was floating around for sale from shop to shop last year ( testing and tuning and the back up for sale) . IT cam with a magic wand to reduce noise  ;D

I have an 6HG in a 95" build. Runs good...EMBARASSING noisy. Don't think they make this gem anymore. :)

Yes the 6H is another. And maybe I should say " before any one gets upset" its not bashing just what the cams do.  Some are less noisy than others but its never going to be a quiet cam. Power wise though the tw8 is a ripper no way that can not be said.

Sewing machine noise, yes, marbles in a can?..........sumpin' wasn't right...
107", a 120"(not 120R) and a 106" Evo are all leaving this week with the 8.
All were/are gear-driven, which makes a large difference vs. the chain counter-part.... ;)

There is only so much one can do with camshaft design. If you want all out performance you are going to have to give up something. The faster you open and close the valve the noisier it gets. This also causes more lifter and lifter bore wear. Doesn't matter who does it, as it's been done since the 60's, this is just how it is. Slow down the opening and closing ramps on the camshaft lobe and the noise comes down, so you have to make a balance (noise/performance) of what is acceptable. There will also be designs that are just nosier because that just what they wanted, not because it has to be. Again, it's all about what someone wants.

Want to hear noise?................take the hood off your car/truck, sit over the engine, and have someone drive you down the road at 60 mph..............THEN you'll hear noise...............probably a class-action suit would be in order at that point.................. :D

Good cam, just not available in gear-driven form, for those that want that option.

will the tw8 cam cause any damage to the motor due to the aggresive ramps?I can deal with the noise if it really performs.

Perhaps, I don't have a crystal ball. Many use less aggressive cams and have had lifters fail. I have done heads with the TW8 cam used and they last over 50K but that was with OEM heads, lighter valves and beehive springs.

cvo1717, plan on doing a "build" or cam swap to a stock 110?
Sure you know, no such thing as a magic cam. Heads, compression need adjusted accordingly along with a pipe that plays well.

No, we've been using that grind in both Evo and T/C since it's conception in the mid-1990's in clients bikes on 3 continents.
Just put an eyeball on things occasionally, as anyone should, albeit modified car/truck/boat/motorcycle.

it seems that gear drive comes up as a viable option as each iteration of chain drive gets old and we all get to know what fails and when.

for 07 to now... lifters are a concern - possibly from too much spring pressure.  but dreaded runout makes gear tough..  but gear still gets rid of all the chain problems once and for all.

gear - or not gear.. its part and parcel of the whole equation  - when changing cams its all open. but to do gear done do we  have to have the crank trued?

or does it still all - "depend"
