« on: January 06, 2015, 01:47:20 AM »

How are the new liquid cooled heads working ?? thinking about upgrading but dont want another leg scorcher . My 2011 still burns my leg even after changing out headers mufflers and Power Vision tuner

I would think that tuned it should be running cooler.  Are you speaking about stop light type heat? it may be that the tune is in need of some minor adjustment.

As for the 15 twin cooled bikes. Yes they are temp stable.  I have let them idle for long periods to see how hot it would get and they hit 225-235 and hold. Where as a non twin cooled will as we know just keep climbing temp wise.

Large cost though for an issue that I feel on your bike can be cured.

I agree with GMR's post pretty much although I have not left one idling for extended periods of time. I did notice on one I tuned that had been previously tuned at a dealership that in an ultra lean state of tune the bike did not lean misfire under load nor did it pull timing and air cooled bike certainly would have done both of those things if it were in the state of tune the liquid cooled bike was in. Maybe that's a good thing or maybe not if it had lead to a burnt piston to an unsuspecting  owner who may be unaware it was so far out of tune by not experiencing pinging etc.

Love my 2015 cvo street glide with the cooled heads, plus the fans in the lowers blow the heat away from the bike ,bike difference over my 2011 cvo street glide with a great tune with tts and the lowers off in the summer, since I live in Florida,I can ride in shorts again and not feel like my leg is burrning off at a stop light or in traffic.

I only barely have 120 miles on my '15 CVO RGU but have felt no heat.  Just to clarify, the heads are not cooled.  Only the exhaust ports are but that is the hottest part of the engine.  The motor has plenty of power and sounds great too.   JMHO.   :coolblue:

I have not noticed the bike being noticeably cooler compared to my 2010.  I do think it has to be cooler around the exhaust ports but from the rider's POV (mine) when it is hot and the bike is just idling it is still very hot.

The "liquid cooling" was provided to cool the exhaust ports so the guides and seats would stop falling out!
I does cool the heads approx. 30 deg, but does basically nothing, imo, for the exhaust heat, which they want to keep at 1100 degrees or so to meet emissions with the cats. the cooling system capacity is no where enough to actually cool the entire engine, only stop already overheated parts from disassembling.
The engines as they come from the factory are notoriously lean, right on the edge, resulting in engines that run far hotter than would be normal if they had an AFR correct for an air cooled engine.
My Twin Cam, carbed 01 ran at 200degrees oil temp, my 07 124 S&S runs at 190, no matter the day on the road. They both heat up  stalled in traffic, but neither have ever gone over 230, still completely safe, even with non synthetic oil. I run Mobil Vtwin 20-50 fwiw.
Its another shortcut HD took to get by for another emissions year imo. They'll do anything to make you believe they are building a wonderful product, when the bottom line now is lining the pockets of the shareholders. If you give Honda $40K, you'd get the finest motorcycle made from the very best components it has to offer, without compromise or buying second class parts from 3rd world countries.
I will never buy another POS from them, my next bike will be Japanese.  fwiw twinotter
