Post your SERG dyno runs here!
« on: March 18, 2008, 07:30:31 PM »

Starting dyno thread for the SERGs.  Maybe we'll get some more activity in the performance arena with all the recent purchases. :nixweiss: . . . .

Will pick the bike up tomorrow eve. but got the dyno chart back today.  Would have liked to have seen a peak TQ number closer to 90 ft./lbs., but I guess that's the limitations of the stock touring mufflers.  Still, a nice improvement over the RPM range versus stock (red line) with just a Ness air cleaner, K&N filter and custom Race Tuner map and a much leaner A/F ratio, too.  Surprised to see the stock tune so rich. :shocked2: :nixweiss:  I'll look forward to putting a few miles on it over the holiday this weekend.  I think I'll be happy, though. :2vrolijk_21:

It's pushing the mid 80s by 2500 and stays there.  That's plenty to make for a comfortable highway ride and still have enough snap to pass something if need be.  Hope the butt dyno is happy when it comes home.

Here's the 01 SERG

Dynoed originally with,
ProPipe with competition baffle.
P/C
S/E breather

Notice the dip in the curve, that's from the comp baffle.
Have changed it to a closed end baffle.
Put it back on the dyno last week and lost 3 on the Torque but gained 1 on the H/P.
Got rid of the decel popping.
But most importantly the dip in the curve has been changed to a gradual rise.

It'll be good enough for the next 4,000 miles, or until the cam tensioners grenade the oil pump, whichever comes first. :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:

When that happens it'll be time for gear drive cams, head work, pistons, etc. ;) The owner of my dealership has the same bike that has been "slightly modified" and I have a hard time keeping up w/him. The potential is there. :)

Was it tuned using a Screaming Eagle Race Tuner?

Based on the numbers with the stock exhaust, the addition of a 2 into 1 and having it properly tuned adds 14 to 18 horsepower and a bunch more torque.
Who can argue with that?

Duane

The reason I asked Brian about what tuner he used was because I had talked with two different tuners that mentioned that even though the Race Tuner was now available for the old Marelli system the Power Commander was actually better in the adjustability of that system. I got this same response twice and that's why I went with the Power Commander on my SERG.
See below,

"CHIP
ON THE OLD FUEL INJECTION BIKES THE RACE TUNER CAN TUNE BOTH FRONT AND REAR CYLINDERS, BUT ON THE REAR YOU CAN ONLY MODIFY YOUR FRONT FUEL TABLE VERY LITTLE TO USE ON THE REAR. MY EXPERIENCE WITH IT, I HAD PROBLEMS IN SOME AREAS NOT BEING ABLE TO GIVE THE FUEL NEEDED THAT THE REAR NEEDED. POWER COMMANDER ON THE OTHER HAND YOU CAN DO WHAT EVER NEEDED TO TUNE BOTH CYLINERS. THERE IS JUST MORE ADJUSTABILITY WITH A POWER COMMANDER FOR THE OLD STYLE INJECTION. DELFI INJECTION THE RACE TUNER IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO. "

The SERG uses a Power Commander.
The Frontier uses a race tuner.
Nancy's bike uses a race tuner.
My Classic uses a race tuner.
The Lowrider is a carb bike.

There are very few people (IMHO) as good as the tuner I use. He's a race tuner guy. His recommendation for my SERG was a Power Commander. He knows how to tune bikes and I went with his recommendation. Based on the low #'s that Brian's SERG showed after his tune and the #'s Don got, I believe I made the right decision.

Just looked at your run posted above here Chip.  Then further up at 103's that had been posted previously.  Was impressed by the repeatability between yours and mine.  Then even more impressed (though negatively so) by the tremendous difference between what we saw and what Brian ended up with.  His wouldn't be a bear to ride.  Lots of fun there.  But if your bike or the other red bike are a guide there's a lot left on the table in Brian's bike.

Yours and mine could be a bit more different or almost identical depending on simply what the variations between two dynos might be.  Looking at only the raw data the red one comes in a bit earlier but the blue climbs a bit higher.  Very similar overall though.  The red one is flatter too.  Did the dip later get tuned out of the blue any more?  The differences between the two are small enough I'd bet we could hop from one saddle to other and never notice the difference.  These things are nice rides.
