Thanks Dave!

Did not photo the license plate bracket install because it had been done before.  Installing by drilling the bracket rather than the fender is a challenge because you have to drill through the curve in the bracket.  Here's how we did it though:

The Kuryakyn # is 9182.  You can see some pics here:

http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/12/scID/25/IMID/1457

Order from Chicago HD to get 15% off Kuryakyn.

The install is a bit more difficult if you don't drill the fender and I would not.  Unbolt the HD license bracket from under the fender and unplug the electrical wiring to the HD license plate light. You'll have to disassemble the mount from inside the rear fender to access the plug (one bolt but you have to reach up inside the fender).  Disassemble the HD light from its bracket and use the black HD bracket to help you see where to drill the K bracket.  You can use the HD bracket to help make a drilling template.

Cut the electrical plug off the HD light and wire it (solder or install plug) to the Kuryakyn plate frame. Next, take the back plate off the Kuryakyn bracket.  It has pre-drilled holes that don't match up with your fender. Line the bracket up with the holes on your fender, mark the bracket and drill new holes in the Kuryakyn bracket.  Note that the holes are radiused like the fender itself.  I used a paper template as well as the HD bracket and drill press.  The difficult part for me was that the K bracket where you have to drill was not flat.  That's why you need a drill press.  After drilling, we dremeled the holes and used washers to make a clean fit.  I also did not use the rubber backing (too thick) but used some padded tape to insulate the back plate from the fender.  Duct tape works fine.  Hope this helps!

Greg

You go Greg.....keep moving that bar up just a little each time...I'd say yellow.

Yellow it shall be.  Ordered the derby cover from Chicago HD #60828-07 ($123) Sat. a.m.  Same part sells for $142.50 on E Bay, Sunday.  Also ordered two service kits HD# 17369-06 to get the new o rings, etc.

Later that day, stopped by the dealer (Bartell's, Marina del Rey) and say hello to the guys.  Mention to Kirk, my service manager that I'd ordered the part.  He gives, yes gives me a derby cover taken off a new 07 that was in the back.  Mechanic says dot 4 brake fluid will dissolve the paint in the script.  Repaint script with yellow touch up paint (ordered).  This morning, cancelled the order from Chicago.

Lessons I learned:  1.  e bay is not always a deal.  2.  It sure pays to be nice to people.  3.  Ask around!  The part I craved was discarded by some one else.

Closer look:

The scales are from the Choir Boys MC.

After purchasing this plate, I pulled the stock junk off and there are some serious marks left in the clearcoat from the OEM.  Not sure if I can do this mod!!!  In the end I will probably do it because it looks great from the curb, but I will always be embarrassed when someone looks too closely.  :-\

Mod is done!!!  I went with the drilling of the Fender.  I bought some rubber grommets for the stock hole, double heatshrinked after soldering.  I hope to buff out the marks left behind from the stock junk.  I will post a photo on Sunday, maybe a new thread since this one is getting no play?

Waiting on your plate!  I forgot to take pics of the 07 derby cover on the bike and will try to remember tonight.  Have to start thinking again of what's next.....

Finned Headbolt Bridge Set.  Thank you Highwaystar!!  See his thread about buying the silver and painting to match.  I have plenty of extra paint for the S. CA guys who may want to do this.

Got my curved plate frame on and mounted.  Drilled the frame, what a pain, but woth it now that it is done.  You reall need three hands to get it mounted, one to hold the frame one to hold the stock piece in the fender and one for the bolt.

Greg, derby cover looks great. Wonder why they stopped putting them on the touring SE bikes for '09??
Sure wish they had a timing cover to match, like they did for the '06 SE 103's..
