2015 CVO windshield and paddle deflectors
« on: September 15, 2014, 09:05:54 AM »

Hey all. Not much of a poster since I don't own a CVO. Just like to browse and admire. I have had my 2015 Road Glide standard for a week now. It is my fourth Road Glide so I am no stranger to them. I was wondering if I could get some feedback on the windshield that comes on the 2015 CVO RG as well as the new style paddle deflectors. I get very little buffeting on mine. Much different than my previous RG's. But I would like a little better wind protection for the colder months. Is the shield on the CVO worth the money or should I wait until the after market companies like KW, Windvest, LRS and Clearview catch up??? Also have you tried a ride without the paddle deflectors??? Do they do anything???

I demo road the Road Glide special at Sturgis.  The wind noise at my ears was unbearable.  I could not hear the sound system over 40 mph.

I have the CVO RG Ultra.  The windshield works pretty well.  Hearing the sound system at 80 is not an issue.  I am 6'1" and I think another inch on the CVO shield would be perfect for me.  The wind I get now is laminar with no buffeting.

I  will be curious to see what the aftermarket brings.

They use the 15.5" shield on the CVO correct??? If you get a chance could you measure the vertical height of the shield from the top edge of the vent to the top edge of the shield.

Thanks

Holy crap that is pretty tall. Just measured and that would be a view-thru for me.

Thank you for measuring.

I'm 5'10" and it's a view through for me when I settle in.

Ok I was revisiting this again. You are saying that the stock CVO shield is a 14 3/8" vertical height from the top of the inside vent to the top edge of the shield???

Measuring just like this except using the top of the vent instead of the top of the radio housing.

Nope. I was measuring from the outside. Measuring the way in the picture (replacing the radio with the vent), 6.25".

I'm 6' and I got a lot of buffing from the stock CVO shield.  Shield came about chin height.  With no other after market options yet, I got a HD 19" and cut it down 2".  Still not super happy and would benefit with a curved top.

I also picked up a 19. The stock 14.5 was fine for me I am 6"1" but when the wife was on back the wind was beating her bad. The 19 has a lot of wind noise and I have to look through it. I think a couple inch's off the top would still be good for the passenger. What did you use to cut yours?

What did you use to cut yours?

Taped entire shield with blue painters tape.
Made an exact template out of construction paper.
Drew line where I wanted to cut.
Cut with fine tooth jig saw.
Block sanded followed by fine sand then wet sand.
***When finished it looks like factory cut.  Just don't take the tape off until you are completely finished sanding.   I tried to touch up a section when tape was off and accidentally put a permanent scratch in shield.
