Fender extention to prevent engine grime
« on: July 28, 2010, 02:29:41 AM »

With only a few hundred miles on my FXDFSE, I had apparently ridden through some recent road construction where my front tire picked up some asphalt particles that stuck EVERWHERE bike was heated up - cooling fins, casing, all along pipes, everywhere.  I did a lot of searching to find best way to get it off.  I wanted to avoid any wiping - needed something to disolve the asphalt, gentle enough to preserve engine paint/coating and also wash off without leaving residue.  I finally settled on WD-40.  It worked great using just a soft toothbrush and my fingers and a lot of patience.

To prevent this I looked for a front Fender Extention.  MoCo sells a chrome extention for Dynas (Part No 59664-03) but it doesn't fit Fat Bobs.  I found and ordered a front fender flap from Timberwolfleather.com.  I'm really happy with it.  Thought I'd share in case any of you had similar issue.  Picture below.

The flap came with mounting hardware but I went to local hardware store and bought a shorter screw as well as a Rubber Washer to preserve paint job around the mounting hole.

Post here if you've found another Fender Extension that works with our Fat Bobs.  Thanks.
