Dealer says 110 isnt overheating....
« on: March 23, 2008, 08:28:58 PM »

So I am waiting on my new cuse3 to come in. I am at the dealer and I thought why not give him the chance to answer the question about the overheating issue.... So he begins to tell me, " It isn't that the motor is running hotter, but the fact that Harley designed the motors with larger airfins therefore it can dissipate the heat more efficiently from the motor and just feels like it is running hotter."

I have to say that he came up with this answer so easily that it had to be rehearsed.

cheers,

Nuke

Do youself a favor and buy a infered thermometer from Radio Shack so you can see for yourself (and prove to your dealer) just how hot it actually is. I keep mine in the TP.

With some of the dealers the question will be, "What the hell is that?"

260degrees oil temp in the bag on my 08 SSE110 around town yesterday, thats getting up into the worry me stage and that was with a 13.9 AF setting on a 75degree day. Yes the Fatheads were built with larger fin area to dissipate heat, but I feel that engine needs an oil cooler, Im ordering one tomorrow for damn sure.

Should come with one shouldn't it.  I was told the oil coolers don't do anything until 275 degrees anyway.  I wouldn't call 260 overly hot.  My 95" used to run at about 275 in hot weather.

dont they come with one?

On my SSE110 they said there is one if it is its not external, that is what Im going to put on it. I run one on my 06 streetglide that I 95 the motor and it stays about 215 on the hwy and 230 in town. The one I will put on the SSE110 has a stat open of 185, I dont like to see to cool of a oil temp I feel ideal is around 210 to 230 keep the condensation cooked off that may form on short runs and still give the oil a good temp to do its lube job at 250 to 275 is not real bad just dont like to see it for a very long period of time at those temps, by the way at 350 its a goner just so you know.

To go way off topic,

I can't believe Chief doesn't have a chrome spring on his kickstand!

What's up with that?

AJ, get on him about that!
