I've heard this general conversation about the 07s in multiple threads. Did any of the changes made in 08 and then 09 help with this issue?

Yes, I believe that the cause and effect of the increased dampening make a strong case for its use.

02-2007 Milwaukee released the torque smoothing calibration. 08-2007 the 2008 touring machines are equipped with the IDS and a retrofit is available for the ‘07’s. 2009 Trike’s and select Softail’s run the big motor sprocket.

I’d like to think that I could out run you, but I know better than to mess with a crazy New Yorker, so let me offer this: I believe that the additional dampening more than offsets a growing pain or two. I’ve seen posted photos and read here about the occasional problem; although I haven’t personally seen a single issue with these, and I believe these issues are not widespread. I am aware of the bulletin regarding wear limits and nothing I have seen so far comes close to this published limit.

If there is/was a problem with the rubber compound, it seems most likely that the early production would be affected. I believe that you have an early unit and if you wanted to hedge your bet, you may want to pick up a late set of rubbers. Ask your parts person to order in a fresh set rather than pulling them off the shelf; use the originals for trading stock at the next swap meet.

Well moron boy that I am, I can't find the damn IDS after having it laying around for over a year now!

I went to order new rubbers for it from Jenni. I looked up the part on Zanotti lookup so she could order the rubbers for it. P/N is 40287-07. On HD's site, it lists for $305. Zanotti's showed it at $198! WTF? I called Jenni. She said HD has a special on it this month. She can give it to me for, get this, 100 BUCKS!!! The freakin new rubbers prolly would'a went for that much! Now I don't feel quite as bad for losing mine. She has to order it, so I can only assume it'll have the new rubbers dj referred to. Every once in awhile we seem to catch a break!
