The Dr. told me I was drinking too much of it ( like four 2 liter bottles a day). The caffeine was no good for me and I'd loose weight it I stopped. I figured it couldn't hurt. I remember Henry trying to quit last time we were at CHL. You can ask him, it's not easy!

No, it isn't easy.  Quitting smoking was easier.  Seems the older I get the more "good stuff" I'm told I need to give up.  I've been dealing with a significant amount of pain lately.........actually for months.  Most of it is Service related, but some of it is my own doing.  For some reason I can't get it through my 18 year old mind that my body is rapidly approaching its 46th year of service.  Found that out yesterday on that stupid gravity accelerator at Redstone.  Anyway, week before last I went to my Dr. about the pain.  I'm not into pills, unless I can't handle the pain.  This ain't THAT bad, so I declined the narcs.........but it does HURT!  He had me get some blood tests.  Got the results Friday.  Uric acid is over the top.

GOUT!

He wants me to eat certain foods in moderation....................and give up beer!

Perhaps you saw my plate in the thread from this weekend's events.  I'll start tomorrow....................Yeah..........right!!   :)

Blood Pressure is under control tho'.......now that my cardiologist got the meds right......118/62.   :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Needless to say.............I fell off the "No Diet Coke" wagon.   :drink:

Hey DCF, sorry to hear of your 'scare' (and I'm hoping that's all it was).  It's tough getting older (as others have said) and having to give up our 'excesses'......but, have some comfort in knowing that we're all in the same boat with ya.  Don't be a 'hero' and lose the ability to ride that punkin.  OK, I'll go have a glass of water just to show my empathy here.   :) har!  spyder

Mike,

Just catching up on the site, and wanted to let you know I sure am glad it wasn't anything serious...but my thoughts and prayers go out to you regardless! Hope you'll be able to sample some George soon, even if it is with a different chaser! God bless you, get well!

Mike,
Hope it was just a scare and nothing that some R&R will take care of. Too many times we tend to ignore what our bodies are trying to tell us, and pay the consequences. Get better soon. :2vrolijk_21:

Just a quick update. Stress test on Wednesday AM. As of right now no problems found. Doctor reccomends cut back on soft drinks, change in diet and lose 50lbs. I told him he may get 2 out of 3. I am feeling better today. I guess a few days lying around and watching BBQ shows has helped. Not to mention all the extra sleep I have gotten.

Thanks for all of the support from everyone. I think IMHO it is stress related. It is almost time to retire and kick back and relax!

...It is almost time to retire and kick back and relax! ...

A friend of ours, fellow HOG chapter member, Grover Barnett, retired on the first after 35 years with the  Henrico County Division of Fire.  His email has truckie in it, so your fellow firemen probably know what that means.  Jamey has just retired at the end of last year from the military.  Both of these men have given their all, every day for years and years.  Now they are both quite happy to not have to do that.  Mike, there is definitely life after retirement.  If it is time then I know you will really enjoy the heck out of it.  Do what you have to do to make sure you are here to do just that.  Good luck tomorrow morning.

Good luck with diet and new life style. It's not easy to change life long habits. Speaking from experience.
