You would be much better off using the adapter with built in thermostat, rather than just trying to tap into the two holes in the oil filter adapter that comes as part of the engine case.  You don't necessarily want oil going to the cooler 100% of the time; the oil temperature needs to come up to normal running temp as quickly as possible.
